Topic Dog Boards / General / getting rid of the smell of urine in garden
- By nellygal [gb] Date 03.10.12 07:57 UTC
I have 2 male dogs that for the last few years have peed on the same spot on our patio and its now starting to smell even though we have tried various methods to clean it.They also pee along the edges of our garden path so that smells of urine too.The way our garden is its impossible to section off a small part for them and i wouldnt want to either but i would like to know if there is a product that i can put on these areas to neutrilise the smell of dog urine.I have found products that come in small spray bottles but im looking for something that comes in a larger concentrated form, any ideas? thanks

There are a couple of recent threads on this topic that might help - here and here

I have one neutered and two entire boys.  I find that if you rinse the area with cold water almost immediately it stops the smell from developing in all but the warmest weather, then you can add cleaning products.  In your case though you might need to pressure wash to remove the accumulated urine and odour from between the paving slabs first...

I highly recommend Yard Clean as have mentioned in the above threads but there are many, cheaper, suggestions in there too :)

I pressure washed first then washed over with bio washing powder. Now I cover the spot with the powder until it soaks up the urine then wash away and brush with cold water.
Seems to be working a treat :-)

For more years than I care to remember, I have used Mistral Odour Fresh. You have a choice of fragrances and sizes and can bulk buy products.

I'm another that's been using mistral for years, on slabs and artificial grass. It's very economical and smells great (all bar the lemon one).

Thanks so much, can any of these products be used near plants? They have also peed at the edges of the path that leads right round the garden,i dont have flowers or anything like that in the garden, just shrubs and bushes but the whole garden seems to be ponging.

I have plants at the edges of my paths, and between paving, and use bio washing liquid in fairly strong solution, leave it on for 30 minutes then rinse/brush off.  The plants have not been harmed by this, nor have the dogs when they decide to redesign the planting. (It does reduce algae on the path, which is useful :) .)
