....my man got down on one knee and proposed. I said yes!!!

Wandering along and he bent down to show something to our daughter then he grabbed my hand and at the moment I realised he was on one knee he had whipped out a ring from his back pocket and asked me to marry him. On our 4th anniversary in a romantic spot with the dog and our little girl present. perfect :-)

- By Cani1 [gb] Date 23.09.12 18:21 UTC
Congratulations , how lovely :)

I never got a proposal , we just sort of agreed to get married one day , not very romantic at all , so we had no engagement just a marriage.
I must say we lived together for years before and were happy but since being married it has been better for us , hubby feels much more secure , even though we seemed perfectly fine before :)

You'll have to keep us up to date with wedding plans , I love a good wedding , was just at a friends on Friday .

Congratulations. And what a romantic proposal! Has anyone else got proposal stories? My husband put a card right in the bottom of my Christmas stocking asking me to marry him - nearly 20 years ago now.

Awww, what a sweetie!!Massive congrats.....WOW, Our first champdogs wedding!! I must buy a new hat!!

I thought my OH was going to propose on my birthday as we all went out for a meal(my family) but he never, he just acted really weird.  Turns out he didn't want our moment to be taken away from others.  He proposed by jumping in my bath fully clothed the next day! Must say, it was a huge surprise then.  He said he didn't want to be predictable and lost his nerve so as soon as he found it again, I was in the tub!

Nope, no giveaway at all. I have since found out he had the thought of doing it for a while but literally decided that morning he was going to do it so was quite a rush job :-). His mum phoned and asked if he was free to give his dad a hand taking rubbish to the tip that morning so i sent him to his parents. Little did i know he had text his mum telling her to say that and his dad infact took him into town to get the ring. he got his mate to flip him up to my parents to ask permoission whilst i was having a coffee with a friend and by 1pm we were at the beach and he had proposed :-)

Thinking of marrying next October. Some sort of 'under one roof' type wedding package. I have only ever been to one wedding and one evening reception. Donteven know where to start :-)

Thank you for all the congrats. Means a lot xxx

awww congratulations .... have fun "planning".

I got married in May this year .... still awaiting an engagement ring to go with my wedding band so no romantic proposal here - in fact I might be in for a long wait as it's probably been forgotten by now / it's in the form of the four legged bundle I have snoring on my lap as I type, which is also my xmas and next years' bday pressie !!

hmm, i feel quite anxious already and I've been engaged a matter of days :-) I'm a born worrier and I can see the stress already but I am looking forward to planning and 'lists'.
I'm currently working out our list of day and evening guests so I can approach hotels, see which ones we would consider marrying in and discuss money. I figured once the venue and date is sorted ( and we know a price) everything else (table decorations, flowers, dresses etc) can be worked out at a later date. Would i be right thinking that or not?? :-/ Any help gratefully receieved...... dont suppose there are any wedding planners on CD willing to give me some advice?? x

Wow, I thought you might be about to report a dog fight or something terrible--says a lot when we start to expect the worst :(

Fabulous news, hope you have the day of your dreams when it comes and here's wishing you long life, good health and much love :-) xxx

I am no wedding planner but my day went very well.  We were on a very tight budget but what you are doing was pretty much exactly what we did.  The hotel room was not great but we tarted it up a lot with table decorations and chair covers.  I kept to one type of flower (roses) which kept the flowers cheap.  I got my dress second hand off a website and later sold it on ebay.  And basically we paid for bits as we went along.  My bridesmaids and the wedding party generally all chose and paid for their own clothes.  I only sorted the flowers out about a month before the wedding.

Thanks Roxylola, has put my mind at rest that i am doing the right thing :-)

Will keep you all posted (and probably be seeking advice and opinion) about forthcoming decisions.

The longer you have to plan the more money you will spend on junk.  I also did favours for the tables made from some gold foil covered chocolate balls in voile fabric - very pretty really cheap and really added to the tables.  Because we had less than 12 months from engagement to d day and we took our time with the main stuff we weren't adding little bits all the time that you "need".

Also see if the hotels can offer you a good fixed package.  Book sooner rather than later - we got a fantastic deal on a hot evening buffet the price had doubled when we came to pay but they had to honour it.  Also because we were in their worst of 3 rooms we got a good fixed offer.  Similarly Friday and Sunday weddings were much cheaper.

Congratulations Whoo hoo how lovely, what a romantic man.

My OH proposed on my 50th birthday at a party with about 150 of our friends and relatives around...competly out of the blue as he was a lifelong batchelor and I never ever expected him to ask. We did the whole thing in a hotel, it was great not to have to move from one place to the next and we had a great day. I did my own table favours and made up bags of crayons etc.. for the children we also had a spare table and put pens paper board games etc.. for the children to occupy themselves as OH's family  have loads of kids!! My friend made the dresses and as there are so many kids (And I am not a children person) I had my 2 best friends as maids of honour rather than bridesmaids so we had no arguments with about 15 nephews and nieces! (His not mine) and my 5 Grandchildren!!.
We got married at 3pm and had the formal dinner for close friends and family then had an hour while they sorted out the tables to chill and went straight into the evening do for everyone else! stayed the night in the hotel and had breakfast with everyone else who stayed it worked really well.
You'll do fine. Just take one step at a time, get the venue sorted then you will know what you need to arrange for dressing the room etc.. How exciting, I could do mine all over again any day!!

Thanks Merlot. have written down your tip for a table for the children. We are probably going to have 6-8 of the family children but thats a great idea to keep them quiet and entertained. Thanks :-)
- By Roxylola [gb] Date 27.09.12 10:42 UTC
I didn't have a seperate table but there were not very many kids there.  I did have colouring books and age appropriate quiet stuff for them to do and it really worked well
