Hi!

Browsing the internet last night and entered my dogs' show name and found out that she got a 3rd place in the limit class at Southern Counties in 1998.  Does she qualify for a stud book entry and how can I find out.

If she had qualified you would have been sent a certificate automatically.

I don't know if any breeds qualify for a stud book number from third in Limit?

1998? That's a long time ago. As has been said, stud book numbers are sent out automatically (although I am still waiting for my latest 7 weeks down the line....) but the criteria changes and are not necessarily the same one year to another. For instance Papillons had theirs changed this year so that they had LESS chances to qualify for one compared to 2011.

It also only applies at shows where CCs are on offer for the breed.

Hi Carol had she previously been owned and exhibited by someone else?  If that's the case then the certificate/s will have been sent to them.

However if you aren't sure, but think that during her show career she might have gained her stud book number, then it would be possible to check breed records for the time period and a phone call to the Kennel Club might point you in the right direction.  Good luck :)

I suppose it depends on the band the breed is/was  in. Ours will only get a stud book number by getting a 1st in Limit.

If this was the case then when she was transfered into the OP's ownership it would show the stud book number on the registration certificate.

If the OP has registered an account with the KC, where they can see details of the dogs they own listed, then it will show the stud book number instead of the KC reg no. against her name.

Carol, the Stud book bands were changed towards the end of the 90's, TTs only get a stud book for 1st in Limit or 1st/2nd/3rd in Open at the moment.  Think it's been this way for a while.  Sadly, like me, I remember when 1/2/3 gave a stud book number in Limit, but hasn't been that way for a while.  Our entries are down, I assume due to the cost of shows & the cost of fuel rather than the judges ;-)

ETA - my bitch gained her Stud book number this year & was sent it automatically.  Same in 2000 when my lad won RCC at Crufts, so if you haven't received it then I doubt very much she gained it :-(  - showing my age aren't I.  Huge jump from showing Grandfather to Grandaughter :-D - quality over quantity I say :-P

You can contact the KC and speak to the awards department and they can let you know if you were entitled to the stud book number.
