Hello,

Looking for some reassurance, first litter for both of us!

I have a bitch who is 62 days from first mating. She has been digging on and off for the past week and panting occasionally. She brought up some bile when we got up this morning, refused all food at breakfast time, happily went for a short walk, brought up some more bile then slept the rest of the morning. I let her out for a pee at lunchtime and she had some clear/slightly yellow (pee stained?) stringy discharge, is this her mucus plug? She then had some diarrhea. Her tummy is now very gurgly and noisy, is this normal? She is still refusing food although has had a small drink. Her temperature was 99.4 this morning. Puppies are very active!  

Sounds like it could be soon from what I've read, in fact I started a thread exactly the same as this one last year lol! Her runny poo will be her 'clearing out' ready for the babies. I bet it's tonight!

She is still loosing a little stringy discharge when she pees. She brought up some clear stuff mid afternoon and has just had a couple of mouthfuls of food. Hopefully things will get going tonight! 

How's she doing puppylove?

She has slept all night! She was hungry before we went to bed and finished off the rest of her tea! She is desperate for a walk. Is it safe to take her? Don't want her giving birth in the woods!

I personally wouldn't walk her just incase she was to start whelping away from home, going out into the garden is as far as I would risk at this stage.

My girls tend to have a very good nights sleep[restless for a few nights before] then go into labour not long after breakfast the next morning.

Hope she doesn't keep you waiting much longer.

Don't take her further than you can carry her home in a hurry. A walk up and down the road should satisfy her urge to keep to her normal routine and, like women in labour, keep the process going. And don't let her off the lead!

My bitch point blank refused to walk for 3 days before she went into labour. She shed her plug just before the water sac, it looked just like a cream slug...

Thanks everyone! She has been out for a short walk round the block. She has brought up some more bile this morning and has just had some more diarrhea. She has now gone back to bed and is sound asleep again! Her milk also appeared last night so hopefully not long to go now!

We are on day 58 so am having the going out for a walk debate with myself, she is clinging close by and not doing her usual exploring so I guess that we are not going to want to go far for much longer, just waiting and waiting now - the longest few days now they are here

She has been up and had some more diarrhea and is now sound asleep again! She hasn't had anything to eat or drink today, how long is it ok for them to not be drinking?  

I would make sure she drinks by offering her broth if she won't drink plain water, goats milk this late in the pregnancy is OK as is vanilla icecream, with panting during labour and producing milk she will quickly become dehydrated.

Thanks Rhodach, she has just drunk a bowl of goats milk. Wasn't sure if I could give it to her before she actually has her puppies! Tried broth earlier and she turned her nose up at it.

This late in the pregnancy the extra calcium won't matter but not something I would suggest earlier as it can mess with the natural processing of the calcium later, I give calcium during labour along with vet/nutrodrops for extra energy.

3 puppies delivered last night by section, first puppy got stuck. Mum and babies doing well, we were only in the vets for a little over an hour and she is managing to feed them herself. The puppy that was stuck took a wee while to start breathing but she is doing well now. She is being a very good mummy although have been up all night with her as she would not stop cleaning them and kept trying to pick them up. Almost like she was looking for the placentas or something? So glad they are finally here safe and well, felt like it would never happen! 

Ahh bless her heart, glad they are here safe and sound. :)

Congrats on the new arrivals.

Keep a close eye on her as she can be groggy for 24hrs and get confused and attack them, never leave her alone.

Enjoy the pups they grow up so quickly.
