Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 9 month old bitch coming into season??
- By Rotti_37 [gb] Date 18.09.12 18:37 UTC
I have a 9 month old Cairn terrier who seems like she may be coming into season. Her vulva isn't particularly swollen or red but she keeps trying to mate her mum. Can anyone give any advice, whether you think she is near or not?

Could be, but could be a month or so.

my westie came into season at 6 months and my German Shepherd  at 9 months so she might be. Just keep your eye on her.

she has been showing the humping signs for about 2 weeks on and off just not sure if she is actually trying to season or not

She could be coming into season. I can always tell with my girls about 3 weeks before as they start mounting each other and their character changes slightly.

Yes she could, a bitch can come into season anytime from 6 months & I have heard of some sooner!!
Humping really doesnt have much to do with it, that is more to do with wanting a domminance over the other dog/s

i have a bitch that never humps until 8 weeks before her season and then all my other dogs get her attention and then she starts a season,

can be, but often it's purely excitement.

Agree with Barbara, it is definitely not dominance in my household!  When my younger Bearded Collie gets really excited, she often humps with joy!  :-)

The earliest I have had a bitch have a first season was at 5 months.  She suffered the worst phantom I've ever seen.

We had humpathons here usually started by one of the girls and it can be either sex on the receiving end or 3 dogs usually a male being humped by a female being humped by a second female.

Chase in my avatar would mount Rhuari and he would run off with her hanging on like a bareback rider till he shook her off, he would then hide till she calmed down.

These episodes usually occurred days before a season was about to start, not seen my present 2 females behaving like this but it is early days and they haven't cycled together yet.

My girls usually start humping each other about 5-6 weeks before they actually come in season. Drives my hubby nuts Esp when your minding your own business watching tv and their humping each other next to you on the sofa!

my pup had her season at 10months, she started bed humping about a mont or 2 befor that and still trys rarely. The thing that mad me supsisous that she was comming in was her peeing on walks, she allways did 1 or 2 pees and the was it, then she started doing lots of pees on her walks and was realy intrested in sniffing things when she wasnt befor, A few weeks later she came in.
