Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch is late

Hello.

I'm a bit concerned about my bitch. Last year she came into season and was mated on August 26th. Then she had the litter on October 29th, all went well, natural birth. Then she was due into season in February but didn't come in until April. I'm waiting for her to come in again to breed her again, but she's late. I have a full list of homes, a superb stud that matches her perfectly, eye tested last month, vet checked as fit and healthy... now I just need her to come in! But I'm unsure how I can predict the season coming when she was so late from her last one; will she come in a bit later from the normal timings, or two months late like she was for her last season?

Any help and experienced, as usual, greatly appreciated. I'm happy to wait for her but a bit worried.

Probably not late - just doing what nature tells her too

what was her cycle before she had puppies?

I wouldn't be worried for a couple of months yet, although it would be nice if they were more easy to predict

If she was 2 months late for her last one she could well go an extra 2 months on this one too meaning she would be due about December. If she usually goes 6 months I would expect her to be in season in October.

If she usually goes 6 months she's not due until October.

I recently had one go 8 ½ months.

My girl went from a regular 7 months, to a regular 8 months after her 1st litter. She stayed like that for 2 years until the 2nd litter, and now seems to have gone back to 7 months. Funny girl!

She is normally 6 months so I suppose it won't be till next month then!

Thanks everyone, would be great if they were more predictable yes haha!

One of my girls added an extra week each time but you could set your clock by her, when there was more than one girl she would bring the others in, we were up to 8 months 3 weeks for her last season before being spayed.

Now we have no pattern here at the present, hope the 2 get their act together so it can all be over and done with together as I am used to rather than them coming in 2 months apart.

I'm waiting for our Inka to come in, but when is anyones guess as she had her first seasons 7 months apart, but the season on which she was mated she was early, only going 6 months.

The season after pups was 7 months from the previous one, and the next has been 8 months, so I have been expecting her in season any time since the first week of September, most likely to come in early October (7 months) but could easily go 8 months again????

I have had bitches several times go longer when I am planning to mate them, or when I have avoided entering shows, so I have entered SWKA and hope she doesn't come in before.

One of my girls came in every 6 mths at the same time as her mum until she was 2 1/2 yo.  And then in February when she was due her mum came in and she didnt come in until the middle of May!!  I've heard of lots of girls being all over the place with seasons.  I think the topsy turvy weather isnt helping.

I have recently had a bitch spayed, and I had been waiting for her to come in season, so I could time the op just right.

She obviously didn't want to be done.  :-(  She waited 16 months!  I have never, in all my years of dogs, known a bitch go that long.  Because I wanted her spayed, I had been watching her really closely.  And, before someone says that she had a silent season, all I can say is, she did it with no swelling of the vulva at all.

I had a bitch who was fairly "regular" at 9 months then 14 months then 9 months and so on!  Even a hot sunny spell of weather can bring them in a bit early.  If one bitch comes into season then often others will follow quite quickly.

Your bitch isn't late, she is following her own body cycle and you will just have to be patient.

I can sympathise - I'm waiting for my bitch to come in to season as well - her last one was back in January , her mum has just finished her season and I thought that would bring her in but so far nothing - it's sods law that the one you're planning on mating is that one that won't co-operate  !!

I'm waiting too, she was in season the beginning of Feb so expected her in August but one of the others came in instead and still no sign!

It's nature after all and natures very unpredictable.
