looking for a vet  in the north of england or Scotland, who can inseminate with fresh chilled semen, looked up the haddington one but cant find any information, awaiting croft to come back to me, need to make  the choice, do I get in the car and drive to europe or sit back and wait, any help would be appriciated.
Tweed House in Leeds are no longer taking on new clients..
God why do dogs have to be so complecated and so expensive!!!

Because they just are LOL

You could try Innovis in Edinburgh

I brought in fresh chilled from Sweden in February and a friend also brought fresh chilled in a few weeks before.  She used a clinic down south and I used Innovis in Edinburgh.  Neither of us had success.  Her girl was a maiden bitch and my girl had 1 litter previously.  Both lots of semen were of excellent quality from stud dogs who'd had litters.  Depending on where you are bringing it from it is very hard to get in over in 1 day and by day 2 the quality is starting to drop as the temp rises.  All in I paid just under £1500.  That was 5 progesterone tests, the costs of two inseminations, the collection of the dog, vetinary official to stamp export paperwork and Fed Ex which I got at a reduced rate through someone else.  The stud owner never took any money at all so it is a very expensive thing to do and I have yet to hear of anyone that has had success doing it in this country!!
My friend then put her own dog on her bitch and has a litter aged 5 weeks and I have just had my girl scanned and she is pregnant with around 8 puppies :-)
This time I travelled to the north of Germany from Scotland!  It was a long haul and I would have been devestated if it hadnt worked as I'd decided this was her last try.  It cost almost the same amount again but we just looked at it as a combined mating/ trip/holiday.
If you want any info at all that I can help you with feel free to message me.
I have to say I wouldnt ever bring chilled in again though, if I couldnt go to the dog then I would perhaps go down the frozen/surgical route as a last resort but I think natural mating whenever possible.

Canine reproductive medicine in this country is PANTS!!

Its about time that some see the potential in this field and get up to speed with the US.

Totally agree, and until they do I will always travel with the bitch for several natural matings.

I agree as well. I do know a few AI litters but 'few' is the operative word here. I know many more that have tried and failed. When you talk to people in other countries, US and Aus. succeeding is the norm. We seem to be light years behind.

Linda Mylne at Innovis, just outside Tranent, is the lady to speak to. She has a page on facebook. She shows her Italian Spinone too so understands the show side of things. :-)

Im afraid for every repro specialist Ive seen recommended, Ive heard from others about their poor success rate. All goes to point to the hit and miss nature of UK centres.

I have recently had Ai with Forzen semen at Croft will find out this week if we have been sucessful. Its certainly not a walk in the park but chilled semen is more reliable than frozen. Found Louise at Croft very good to work with but TBH if the stud was in northern europe would probably opt to travel. Costs similar with better sucess rate

I blame the restrictions that were here for years as the skills have not been learnt as not needed. America and Australia are such big continents it would be impossible to do natural matings every time if you wanted to use the very best stud so they have more folk who specialize in AI and get the experience.

What about FitnFertile in Preston, they have a good reputation.

These are my thoughts exactly.  And I know that Barbara has done a couple of long haul trips to get a natural service rather than risk the low success rate here.
