I don't normally follow the crowds, often walking in the opposite direction. Many of my friends have been talking about it, fb friends raving about it so thought hey reading a sexy novel, why not!!
Well I have read the first book, I skipped many pages as it was really dull. I'm not into S&M and therefore did nowt for me in that dept, yes they do have 'normal' sex but it's nothing to write home about.. Story line, really? Missed that one...
All in all if you want something explicit then I'd say get yourself a porn movie!! ;-)

"and a pile of ironing"

I wouldn't go as far as that Jean!

But no, I don't think I'll bother either.

dogs a babe - very good book - finished it yesterday.  Quite a sad ending though.  Excellent value for 20p if you have a Kindle - I still prefer books myself.

Now debating whether to start the 50 shades series of something else....

I don't think anything can beat the book I read at 18 from a work colleague, wish I could remember who wrote it so long ago now, it was so explicit it definitely made me blush everything since is just childs play. I don't think these books would turn me all mushy as it seems to be doing to so many out there so won't bother.

Story of O ?..regarded as a bit of a classic and VERY raunchy, not that i've read it off course, I was told about it :-)

Carrington, you might be the person to suggest a decent horror, I'm at a dead end for kindle books and have resorted to HP Lovecraft :-0

O, O, O, :-D

No it wasn't that, never read the book - but I've seen the *old* film **blush** some of our very conservative friends lent it to hubby and I many years ago, I was a bit worried about why they had given it to us. All sorts of visions were going through my mind. :-D  But, they just wanted to shock us as they had been to start with.

As for horror, I've got 3 book shelves full of them and was just looking to choose one for you  it's too hard, I'm mainly a King, Koontz, Herbert and Laymon fan, I enjoy them all, so hopefully you can find something from there, alas I've been reading crime/thriller novels for the past couple of years now, don't laugh but currently reading Woman In Black.... only just got around to it. :-)

This is supposed to be what Mr Grey looks like.

Can't say he floats my boat !
- By Celli [gb] Date 07.07.12 16:23 UTC
I just finished the Beast House collection, are Laymon's other books worth reading ?
Quite enjoyed Beast House, although the stories were all much the same, and it annoyed me how the characters fell madly in love with each other in under 24hr lol.

No, can't say as that Mr Grey would be my cup of tea either, I'd say Tom Hiddleston but he's too damned nice, Tom Hardy perhaps.

I have succomed (sp) however havnt got far yet and so far its rather plodding not impressed. It will have to improve some to beat my usual stuff Patricia conwell and Kathy Reich. If ther is "mummy porn " not sure I like that expression it must be alot further in or I missed it
ljs no not here either lol

Okay, I did two of them.
Quite quickly became bored, and skip read,  ignored the sexy bits, (very repetitive) and tried to just read 'the love story' a bit twee and poorly written.
But, as much as I know that, I enjoyed it okay, and couldn't have done any better.
Cant be bothered with the 3rd, so.........will find a spoiler somewhere.

A whole different Genre, I have to tell anybody who enjoys a good read and a well written book to try 'Cutting for Stone' by Abraham Verghese.
This is now my favourite book and have reread and will again, just love it.

Karen :)

Think this may be in reaction to everyone talking about 50 shades - I am now re-reading all my old Georgette Heyers and then plan to move on to PG Wodehouse!

I love Georgette Heyer! True romance and she was a great historian too.

Much as I disliked the first book I was determined to like them so got the second which was better but not brilliant... I borrowed the third book and that was a waste, so done them all
Now and not sure what all the hype was about tbh...
God help us when the movie comes out, though for the sake of watching a hunky guy being stripped down for most of it I may take a peek ;-)

Honestly, I think the fuss was because theres a huge generation of people who do NOT know that there is erotic literature out there nor that its acceptable to read it!
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 10.09.12 18:55 UTC
Well put Suejaw. I struggled to get into it and almost gave up part way through the first book but stuck with and enjoyed the second. however i was dissapointed with the third and the ending- was a bit predictable. I think the books could have been done in two rather than dragged out to three books.

I wouldnt say I am mad keen to see the film but I am looking forward to see how they interpret the book to put into a film

I have NEVER read an erotic book like this one.I'v heard older people talk about mills and boon but for my age range (26) its the first time something like this has been well known and talked about.
- By Roxylola [gb] Date 10.09.12 18:59 UTC
I wouldn't have called it erotic - black lace is a bit more fun and the books don't try to be too serious.  Or if you want something with a bit more plot there is Anne Rice - Mayfair witches if you don't fancy vampires, Laurell K Hamilton - vampires or fairies granted but they are a better read and actually erotic.

I love the Georgette Heyers, sadly lost my whole collection (my Dad has no respect for books and burned them as they had been read and were old!) when I left home some 25 years or more ago.

My collection had become depleted due to many re-reads, loans not returned, and loss due to several house moves.  Now, due to the wonders of ebay I am back to full strength with them.   Marvelous light reading, no glaring grammatical errors, just a chance to slip into a happy place for a little while each day.
