Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Raw feeding- finally did it!

I have been wanting to do this for some time and just couldn't afford it with 6 dogs
and 2 little children. Time has passed my children are grown and we now have the 2 old Boston's and
our 11 month old Moose (dane cross) and was tired of feeding processed food. Kinda like us how healthy would we
be if we ate processed for our entire life that was my thinking. So started checking into it
a lot more and with some help from peeps I finally did the switch. Not making my own yet but hopefully
by the winter I am. I am totally amazed at how NOT pricey it is and I am sure once I do my own prob bring that
price down a lot. Mind you my freezer is full of 100 pounds of meat for my dogs lol they come in 5 pounds each with 4 to a box
so I have 5 boxes which makes 100 lol Not much of our food in the freezer all dog meat haha

My dogs just love it!

Just had to share :-)

I'm sure you won't regret the change to raw , I totally agree that processed food for either man or beast cannot be healthy.

well done!I know what you mean about freezers,Ive got a separate one for the dogs(and an empty one for emergencies)but my own freezer is half full of meat n bones as well,in fact, come to think of it,theres not actually that much food in it for me at all,its mainly stuff for the grandkids, and any meat eating friends!but Im sure your dogs will thank you! Are you making "barf"style meals up? There also the tom lonsdale school of thought, where you just feed raw meat and bones.,which is what I do,along with raw eggs, fish(they love tinned pilchards!)and I also blitz some raw veg up and put a spoonful in each dish.I think its fascinating, and Im always trying to find out more Good luck!

Actually I am buying them and they come already ground up with veggies- 20 pound boxes with 4 packages in it. One box is just chicken with bone mix only.
We are planning by winter hopefully to start making our own- so want to try and get all the info I can and any advice from people is more then welcome :-)

Hubby not to keen on giving meat that is not ground- he insists on a meat grinder- which I can understand with my one boston since he is missing about 15 teeth
mostly on one side- but the other 2 should be fine.

My boston's poo has been runny off and on, Moose to a lil- woke up yesterday to runny poo in my kitchen- they started the raw yesterday morning and WOW what a difference
we now have solid poo all the way around- so very impressed sure makes cleanup much easier outside. Hubby pointed out how formed Moose's poo was last night
he was very impressed lol They were like kids to candy over this food it def is amazing. Moose has always been excited about meal time, the boston's no so much,
but now they are sitting and waiting in the kitchen for their meal even b4 I call them. Didn't think I would see a difference that fast- Junior vibrates when he eats lol

I def welcome meal menus to see how people feed their dogs for a week to give me an idea when I start making my own.

:-)

oh thats brilliant!Im glad its going well! As for weekly menues,I give a selection of whatever Ive got in,lamb mince, chicken mince with bone, tripe chunks, liver chunks(not too much, just an ounce or so 2 or 3 times a week,)kidney chunks, ditto, heart and lung mince,White fish mince,I sort of decide on the day before, and get it out of the freezer to defrost, they usually get one or two chicken wings daily,as well, pilchards once a week(or when Ive forgotten to defrost anything!)(to which end,i also keep orijen kibble in).a raw egg once or twice a week,as well,as well as the blitzd veggies.
Im sure someone else will be along with a better weekly menu, mines a bit haphazard! I do like the sound of your ready made up ones, though! - - do you ever get the feeling our dogs eat better than we do,heheh!!

I've been feeding raw for nearly 5 years now - it's worked so well for my dogs, old and young.  The key thing is to remember in the same way we do - our dogs need a fresh, balanced diet (don't forget the liver, offal and all the vitamins and minerals.  (pretty much all of them are covered in the raw meaty bones diet - with eggs, fish etc added in.

This stuff has organs, liver and veggies all in it. Just no Omega so was thinking fresh fish instead of supplements.
Hubby not keen on the canned fish due to salt.

Yes I do believe my dogs def eat better then us for sure lol :-)

Thanks  gives me a great idea for when I am able to start making my own and figure out what all
to ask the butchers for.
