Whats the best way to start training a puppy, she's 10 weeks old now and VERY food orientated lol I've heard of clicker training but no idea how it works or what else is out there.  She often yaps and I'm thinking it's for attention and when shes jumping to hang onto the clothes im wearing etc.  Do I ignore her till she stops barking ( her favourite time is when I get up and everyone else is in bed or when we go outside first thing in the morning that's when it bothers me most) any advice and ideas on what works ar doesn't work is much appreciated.

If you google Karen Pryor and Jean Donaldson, you will get lots of links to excellent books on clicker training.

Karen's "Don't Shoot the Dog" is an ace place to start (in my opinion!).

Timing is important with clicker training but you can get books that will explain basic training that you should be able to follow, a good time to start is now and a food orientated pup is ideal.

For example the sit, call the pup, wait for it to sit, click and treat. After a few days say sit as it sits, click and treat, and so on.

Have a look for training classes - it's a great way to learn, and they teach you to teach your puppy so you should come away each week with new things to practise.  I'd recommend a course that works toward the KC Good Citizen awards.  Have a look at Association of Pet Dog Trainers website, and arrange to watch a class before choosing - some classes are better than others :).  Alternatively let us know where in the country you are and perhaps someone could give you a recommendation

In the meantime - get a copy of The Puppy Primer by Patricia Mcconnell.  It's an excellent book with lots of easy-to-understand, easy-to-apply exercises and techniques for you and your puppy.  Highly recommended A++

You can also have a look at The Bite Stops Here, search on this site as it's always being mentioned (for good reason :) - it works )
