Hi All
I have a 4 yr old dog who at the moment will not leave my 6 yr old bitch alone most of the time he is stuck to her back end sniffing etc
He behaves as if she is in season, but she isnt Due in around september time
Can anyone tell me why he is behaving like this

Its just 4 days till Sept...maybe she will be in a little early.

She could be coming into season early (very common) or she could have an infection. Is she running a temperature? Or are her anal glands full?

Have found that my dogs (males) are very interested in a dog who is incubating a UTI, so a urine sample to the vet may be a good idea, sample of the bitch not dog.
Are these dogs usually kept together? Is this how he normally behaves around bitches or only in season ones?
It could simply be the novelty of being around a girl and inexperienced dogs can find them interesting at any time of year. However I have entire boys (and a neutered chap who the ladies adore) who seem to be able to bring visiting bitches into season early, very early in some cases, so don't rule it out! As someone else has mentioned though September is only next week so she's not all that early and he could be very accurate...
If he's a visiting dog are you able to send him home?

He's telling you that she is about to come in season.
one of my males can tell as early as 8 weeks that i have a bitch comming into season, as she must start to smell different to him but looks no different to us, and so far he has not been wrong
My 14month old bitch hasnt had a season yet,but yesterday I noticed the other two bitches sniffing her rear end a lot, also, she s licking herself a lot, although I havent seen any blood yet.A friend who breeds says this can happen up to a month before we see the season,so Im on watch, kitchen roll dabs first thing in the morning, etc!
