Health / Chemical Castration - Using dog to stud after it wears off?

I was wondering if anyone has had their dog implanted to castrate them and then gone on to use the dog to stud once the implant wears off?
My boy was implanted last October (2011) as he started to mark in the house after my bitch came in season, it had the desired effect and he no longer displays this behaviour.
Recently i have been approached by two seperate parties asking to use him to stud next year ( he is KC fully health tested etc ).
I was wondering if anyone had had their dog implanted and then used him to stud once the implant had worn off? also how long the implant took to wear off in your dog ?
Thanks for replies

The only reason I would use chemical castration is if I wanted to know if surgical castration would stop some undesired behaviour and didn't cause anything else undesirable to start.
Never known of it being used to correct natural behaviour you expect when intact males and females live together. Did the vet explain about fertility prior to doing the implant?

My vet did explain that it woudl last anything from 6 mths to 1 yr and that was all that was said.
The implant worked and had the desired effect as it stopped the marking and even now that it is wearing off this behaviour has never returned. Thankfully he has never displayed any signs of aggression or any other issues associated with entire males, in short i couldn't ask for a better dog. The behaviour of weeing up things in the house was something i would not accept period and the implant was something that was suggested as i did not want him castrated. It worked however now i wish to put him to stud and i need to know if this is possible.
I will also be talking to vet's regarding this subject but would like to know if anyone else has been in the situation other than just talking to the vet

I have Googled the subject and very little came up and what did was repeated, no one was wanting to breed at a later date.
If his sex urges have not returned after it has worn off then this will prevent any matings, my concern would be that if sperm were produced would they be normal. Before offering him at stud get his semen/sperm checked out and make it known to the bitch owners that he has been chemically castrated in the past in case there are deformed pups, if it isn't a rare breed I would expect them to look elsewhere.

I have a friend who used the implant on her dally male as he was showing dominant behaviour towards other males and the vet suggested the implant. It made no difference to the behaviour towards other males but he wasn't so 'humpy' in the house. When the implant stopped working, nomal behaviour resumed!!
I would maybe send away a sample to test the sperm before taking him to any bitches just to be safe. Then if she misses, your boy won't get the blame.

Often, once a male has mated a bitch, marking becomes the norm. So my worry would be that you get back the undesired behaviour.
I do know someone who has used the supralorin implant and then the dog has fathered a litter but don't know details of how long after the implant he was used at stud. No problems with the litter. 9 normal puppies.

Ditto to newyork, I also have a fried who used Suprelorin and then used the dog at stud but unsure after how long -about a year I think.
It is true though, once a dog has been used at stud they became right X#@$%!!!!!! One of mine does not only pee absolutely everywhere indoors all day long (yesterday he peed on my daughter's feet), but also attacks any dog that goes near him outside of the home -regardless of breed, sex and age, he beats it up. Thankfully he's only small so can be picked up and he never approaches other dogs, but gosh he is a pain in the backside now!!!
Maybe it depends on the breed. I have two boys. One has been used once and the other has been used several times. I have not had problems with either of them marking or being aggressive with other dogs or each other. The only problem I am having at the moment is my 12 year old has recently lost his recall if he sees another dog but comes back once he has checked it is not an in season bitch. I do think he is going deaf now but the problem only started when we met someone walking an in season bitch. He followed her for ages and since then he has checked out any other dog we see. even if they are miles away. Obviously i put him on a lead if I see them first but his eyesight is still pretty good. His recall is fine if there are no dogs around so don't think it is down to deafness.
Maybe it depends on the breed.I would say it is more individual, and therefore anyone contemplating using their dog at stud will never know for certain until after the event if it will change them for the worse or not. The sire of this dog of mine has not changed like his son did, so not breed related there.
>anyone contemplating using their dog at stud will never know for certain until after the event if it will change them for the worse or not.
yes, that is true. And once the dog has changed it is too late to do anything

thank you for everyone's replies
I have already found a place nearby where i will have his sperm tested in the new year as i do want to ensure he is fully capable of the job being asked of him and if not i can let the people know asap and they can start to look else where. The people asking are not wanting the mating to take place until next year so i am preying he will return to normal as it will have been at least 1yr 6mths from the implant being injected in to him.
Thanks again for your replies

Used it on my male and took 2 yrs before he was fertile again, didn't do him a lot of good emotionally either very miserable agraphobic boy he became, out for toilet then digging at the door to get back in for 2 full yrs was horrible to watch.
He's now an old man with enlarged prostrate but I use tardak for that rather than another implant couldn't bear to see him so unhappy again.
