I have a 2 1/2 year old Maltese. He has never had tear staining until 2weeks ago. It started a few days after taking him to the groomer which sounds strange I know. It's not very bad just starting but don't want it to get any worse if I can prevent it. There are sooo many products on the market from vinegar to Angel Eyes. What to do?

Could the groomer have used a different product that the dog is allergic to?
If it continues see the vet as the dog may need antibiotic eye drops. Also I had a dog that always had bad eyes after going to the groomer, it turned out that the cage dryer that they used was drying out his eyes and also there is a lot of dust and hair at a groomers that can blow into the dogs eyes. In the end I got a groomer who came to the house and I had no problems after that.
You have to be very careful with eyes especially in the breeds who with prominent eyes as they can easily develop an eye ulcer which can be very painful and difficult to clear up.
Thanks, never thought about the dryer! I.ve been wiping his eyes with Tear-um then smearing on the teenest bit of Bepanthen (saw that on line). I.ve also put Dog Rocks back in his water bowl too. I also read that optrex can be used to wipe the eye area but one thing at a time. I just can.nt explain why it's suddenly happened. It does,nt look as if it's getting any worse so fingers crossed.
Thanks for answering.
I only twigged about the groomers as when the dog had sore eyes it always coincided with a recent visit to the groomers. Over the years my poor dog was plagued with eye ulcers and and lots of visits to the vet at least twice he had to stay at the vets as they needed to scrape the ulcer under sedation. Once I stopped taking him to the groomers his eyes were much better. I used to always make sure he had no little bits in his eyes as they can fly in when their face is being trimmed, and I always kept in a tube of simple eye gel you can get it from the vets or may be cheaper at the chemist.
Some groomers will have several dryers going at once especially if they have a few groomers all working at the same time, and a lot of hair can be blowing about.
Hope this helps, and good luck, sounds like you have sorted the problem.
