I had to take my girl to vet today for a red inflamed ear. Whilst there I asked about lungworm prevention, coz like everyone, I've had a plague of slugs this summer and I have been concerned. She prescribed Advocate, but when I got it home I can't find anything in the info leaflet about lungworm treatment.
Does anyone know if it is effective in lungworm prevention ?

Lungworm infection in dogs, caused by the parasite Angiostrongylus vasorum,
Yes it treats the parasite that causes lungworm.
My guy has had very mild infection twice and vet prescribed Advocate, I now use it as a preventative.

Thanks Chris. Am I right that these slugs are the cause of lungworm or have I got it wrong. Maybe its heartworm they cause. I'm totally muddled by it.

This link gives you quite a lot of info, it is also referred to as 'french heart worm' which is where it gets confusing as there is also another 'heartworm' with a different latin name caused by a different worm.
All my guy had was a 'huffy - clearing his throat' sort of cough but he had not long had surgery so I got him checked and the vet identified it straight away as her own dog had had it some while before.

Lungworm infection in dogs, caused by the parasite Angiostrongylus vasorum       picked up from snails/slugs

is what Zuma had - not the other one, Advocate treated it, cleared it and has prevented any re-occurance
