How old is your pup? They do get used to particular surfaces and it may take a while before he will consider other areas. Does he perform on command?

Thanks but no i do say a command when out back till he goes and keep saying as he goes its just the whole back is concrete and he wont attempt to go outside on grass when out for a walk it just seems as if he will never go when out walking thats all maybe its to soon he is 15 weeks old now and for 4 weeks ive been trying everything down to a dirt filled tray indoors which to my dispair he flicks all round the place as my balcony door is in living room its to cold to leave open

It took my dog till he was 7 months old before he'd perform on a walk. My pup was quicker because she had him to copy. Give him time and he'll get there.:)

It may sound a bit daft, but can you take the paper with you and put it on the grass? I've heard this helps, tho' I've never needed to do it with mine.

Thanks for the advice but tried that along with many other things and to no avail he seems very headstrong about what he wants to do little devil he is im at the end of my tether
It took Chelsea months before she would go ANYWHERE except our front garden. We went on holiday and it was almost 24 hours before she finally did anything and that was out of sheer desperation. We could be out on a long walk and she would hold it till we got back and go in the garden. I think it's probably associating other places that are safe and acceptable. I'm sure it will work itself out in time. Just know you're not alone.

Sound just like mine the thing that im confused about is he will poo out on the balcony at home and not when walking but he wont wee outside full stop amazing
I think you'll find he will get over it. Do you give him a command when he pees or Poos? If not then when you see him starting make a big fuss and say 'good boy......' and whatever the command. That way he will learn to associate the word with the action and you may be able to get him to on command anywhere.
Both of mine prefer grass, but will in a pinch, be talked into going on concrete, but it takes a lot of persuasion.

call me a bit queer but I actually prefer a dog to go on the concrete as the grass is harder to spot and clean and the kids walk in the wee and poop in the summer..the concrete is easily washed ..well that's just me ..I guess ! :)I could see it being a problem going for a walk you would need the dog to wee on the grass not on the pathway ...:)
Fair enough, we have always had ours go on the grass. Never had a problem cleaning up:) I hate the thought of training to concrete because one of my biggest pet peeves is walking through dog pee on the pavement or seeing it rolling down a wall. And the next pet peeve is those who don't clean up after themselves whether it's on pavement OR grass.

I agree i have two kids and if they tread in it on the path i go nuts i hate dog owners who let their dog foul the pavement and leave it there thats why when out grass will be better as i take my poop scoop everywhere if he ever decides to go when out walking .I keep the balcony extremly clean i dont mind him going out there just he wont wee out there weird but still he does poo out there just a matter of time i hope before he does it while out walking thanks everyone for the advice

don't want anyone to think I would let my dog poop on a pavement or public path ..I am talking about my back yard...I would always walk with my bags in public :)
If a dog is going to poop on a pavement or path there's not a lot you can do to prevent it. My dogs do it every day of their lives - it's the picking up that's the important part. :)
