My puppy (hopefully)is still in the womb, but im wondering how you prepare your pup for the first class.ive seen puppies advertised standing out as id call it,same term used for the section A's we used to show...
How do i get the puppy to learn to stand correctly if i myself do not know exactly how he/she should stand?
i need help because im not giving up this time...anyone fancy helping me??

Edited to say i cant take her/him to ringcraft,im not critisising but i didnt feel like i was taken seriously last time..

If you don't feel happy with the ringcraft that you went to I would look around for another one. Hopefully there will be another in your area that could help you out. Apart from that you can go to shows, watch how other exhibitors stand their dogs, and ask questions once they are finished in the ring (not before, they will be far too busy ;-) ) Then you go home and practice, but never for too long, not with a young pup. They get bored very quickly, so standing a couple of seconds several times during the day is far better than a couple of minutes once or twice a day.

Definitely look around for another class; I hated my first one, they were cruel to the dogs and a few people in particular stand out in my memory. But when I moved classes I made lots of friends and took my new pup back there to train too, it was fab.

I just got a really light lead and walked backwards, gently enticing her to walk towards me. When she stopped in a nice stand, I'd treat and cue 'Stand' and then worked on hand signals to command 'forward a few more steps' or 'stay where you are!' etc. Didn't take too long and I imagine you'll have a lot of fun doing it!

Going to breed specific shows will allow you to see lots of examples of your breed and how folk handle them.

My breed is "stacked" on the table so any time I pick the pup up for what ever reason I pop it on the table for a minute or two in front of a mirror so I can see the side the judge will see,by 12 weeks old they will stack with me standing at the head end with a treat, if your dog is examined by the judge on the ground the mirror hung low down works just as well.

Like all clubs you will find some more friendly than others and you need to search for the right one and let someone take you under their wing and mentor you through this new experience.

Assuming it is a Rottie in your picture and this is the breed you are hoping to show, the Midland Rott Club have their Breed Champ show on towards the end of September at the KC building at Stone, or SWRA towards the end of October somewhere in Bristol I think

I'd highly recommend trying to find another Ringcraft. Where do you live, between us we should be able to offer alternatives..
What breed as there are general ch shows and many breed ones between now and Xmas.. Always worth going along to :-)

The best thing to do with a free standing breed is get it to learn 'watch me' ...any time - any place.

My pups are stopping what they are doing already and stiking the pose for 'watch me'.

In the local shopping precinct I walk about and let the pups get fussed ( but no jumping up) I stop often and ask for a free stand.

Thats all a dog show is... a big open space with lots of people.
