I have a friend who has a lab he wants to breed from. I know he needs the usual tests done and want to know if anyone can recommend a vet in the Yorkshire area who can do the hip,elbow and eye tests?  Are the eye tests done by the same vet or are they a specialist and how do we find out about them?

When I had a bitch hipscored (not a lab) I was charged £120 plus the BVA fee for the xray examination adn it was done under a sedation not a general... can the elbow one be done the same way?

I had one of my girls hipscored under sedation at this vets - by a Mr Bone!  They do a lot of hipscoring and were very good indeed (as were my bitches hips) :-)

you need a vet who can do a good xray - digital these days then they send a disc to BVA whose panel do the scoring... for eye tests you have to go to one of the panel which the 'local' one to yorkshire is in preston.. but they do travel around.... Prof Bedford comes as far as Darlington.. the list is on KC website I'll see if I can find it and post the url

forgot to say that the vet you choose will do both xrays (hips and elbows) at the same time, I prefer sedation, and will then send them both off for scoring

Any vet can do the X-rays which are then sent in for scoring (but many people prefer to get a vet like an orthopaedic specialist to get better x-ray plates).

The eye tests have to be done by one of the eye panel vets, there is a link for a list on the site.
