My male has suddenly just started mounting and licking at my female in the last 3 days. She came into season  11th June and mated 23rd 24th and again on 28th when they got together again by accident. She was scanned at 29 days from the first mating by Keith Shea but he said he couldnt see any pups. She has shown signs of pregnancy though but presuming its a phantom and shes not showing at all 'yet'

He is licking her a lot and mounting her, shes not letting him though and is snapping him away

This is a classic time for a Pyometra, has she any discharge, as infection to a male can smell very much like a season and gets them confused.

Agree. Wouldn't hurt to get a vet to check her over.

Agree also, and if there is no discharge I would not hang around get her checked asap.

One of my bitches (who always humps our other bitches when in they are in season) has often mistaken pregnancy smells (not anything we can smell, but an odour a pregnant bitch omits)  for a season ... so could it not be because she is in fact in whelp?

Her shape hasnt really changed but shes acting pregnant, fussing with food ect..... but scan said no. Im not sure tbh

Does a bitch with a closed Pyometra give off a scent or is it just the discharge the male is smelling and confusing him?

My males have lost interest within a week of a mating taking place whether it has resulted in a phantom or a pregnancy, the bitches have seen them off with a flea in their ear within 3 days of the final mating but the boys will still have a sniff in passing.

That is rather what I was meaning if there is no discharge then it could be closed Pyometra and she should see a vet asap - we know this bitch had several unplanned matings so the risk is high.

She was scanned and had nothing showing at all. Im sure it would have been seen if she had it when she was scanned ?

It is an infection that can develop at any time, it is up to you but under the circumstances I would have her checked out.

After all you have nothing to loose if she is clear but could loose the bitch if she has an infection.

Oh I didnt realise that, thankyou hun I will go get her checked. She means too much to me not too xx

Infection can be introduced when the vulva is open or during mating and it will take time to produce the puss in the womb that can be very dangerous, now it is only a long shot that this is the problem with your bitch but there is a slight chance and it is best checked. Classical symptoms would be drinking and peeing more but I have known a bitch have no real signs until they are taken very ill.
