Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / mating time between slip matings
- By nellygal [gb] Date 07.08.12 11:32 UTC
My friend is currently nearly 200 miles away from home having her girl mated, she has waited a long time for this but today she got a slip mating so she is very disappointed. How long should she wait before they try again,is it possible to try tommorrow or does it have to be 48 hours?she has no internet access which is why im asking. The stud owner has said tommorrow but my friend is worried the sperm quality wont be great because its too soon because although they didnt tie he still did the deed.Any advice i can pass on appreciated, thanks

Does not really work that way dogs have more than enough stored to re-mate in 24 hours or less but the dog may get tired so it is best to do as the stud owner suggests they will know their dog.

Can't see that that is a problem at all but other may and no doubt will say so. Thing is in normal circumstances a healthy dog could probably achieve a viable ejaculation several times a day.

The 48hr gap between mating is to extend the viability time of the sperm, having only had a slip mating I would definitely go back the next day,as has already been stated a healthy dog should be able to produce good semen more than once per day but I would only allow a tie once in 24hrs.

My studs have been 200 miles away in the past and meant one or two night stay in B&B, I would hate to travel abroad for a stud but then I have never been abroad on holiday so not used to such travelling.
