Hi, I don't post on here very often but I felt the need to have a good old rant with some like minded people! Near where I live there is a young couple who own an Alaskan Malamute x German malamute (apparently, to me this sounds like a GSD x Malamute but they claim it is a breed which actually exists. So hey what do I know?!) male who they have just brought an 18 month old female Mally to breed with! :O This male is tethered all day and has the worst temperament of any dog I have ever met, he is HIGHLY aggressive and has in fact gone to attack myself whilst walking my small dog, he wasn't at all interested in attacking my dog but was actually aiming for me and it was only thanks to my Westie who stepped in and drove him off that I wasn't injured! The malamute was off the lead without the owner in sight (?!) and to top it all off when I confronted the owner he claimed that dog wasn't his! When I asked the owners their reasons for breeding they said 'we've got to make some extra money some how'?! I explained all about responsible breeding etc etc but I might as well have been talking to a crack on a wall, it probably would have been more responsive. I love Alaskan Malamutes and they are on the 'wish list' for later in life and it nearly makes me weep to think of these puppies who will be and I quote 'raised in their mum's box outside'! Such a shame to abuse such a wonderful breed.
What on earth is a German Malamute???? A malamute is a malamute, unless they mean it was imported from Germany but I find that extremely unlikely in the circumstances.
No such thing :(

Agree rockrose, a Malamute is a northern breed and I always think of northern starting a fair way north of Germany.

If the dog was out of control and displaying threatening behaviour in public then it needs to be reported to the police and the local animal warden. If you can give them the address then they can have a word with the owners; the animal warden would be well within their rights to go round/write them a stern letter as the dog scaring/threatening you is against the Dangerous Dogs Act. I imagine they'd have something to say about the dog being tethered as well.

A good idea to report it to police. I did so when my border terrier was attacked be two pitbull types some months back, totally terrifying me, so much so, I still wont walk her locally for fear of meeting them again, stupid I know. I take her by car to a park where most are responsible owners.
What did the police do for me- absolutely nothing.
I completely understand your frustration but sadly these people are beyond educating. Hopefully the learn the hard way about the expense ad hardship of 'breeding' and never do it again (doesnt help the current litter they are planning though). So sad :-(
