Hi, my bitch had seven pups on 8th June, and all bar two went to their new owners this weekend, at eight weeks old.
I started weaning the pups at three weeks, which was successful, coupled with regular feeds from mum. Now obviously she doesn't want to feed the two remaining pups and leaps out of the way and sometimes growls at them when they try.
My worry is her four back teats are full to bursting, and still produce milk when squeezed, they almost look like a cows udder! Will the milk dissipate naturally, or do I need to do something to help her along?
Thanks

It will dissipate naturally.
My girl whose pups are not 10 1/2 weeks just has empty boobs now (she was still letting the last three feed at 9 weeks) and is being spayed in another week and a half.
She definitely closed shop at 9 1/2 weeks and in the last week has gone completely empty.
Will be pleased when the undercarriage pulls back up, as with all her coat gone the flappy bags do look funny ;).

If left alone things will dry up naturally, every time a pup feeds or you squeeze that milk will automatically be replaced, the dam is weaning the pups her way, they now have sharp teeth which will hurt when they hang on so she lets them know that there is no more food from her.
Just make sure there is enough fluid available for the pups now that they are not getting mums milk.
Ha ha ha, thanks for that. My girl does let them have the odd suckle maybe in the evening, but other than that...noooooo!!! The pups are only 9 weeks on Friday, so there's time yet judging by what you've said.
Oh and I'd prefer to see flappy bags than these big bovine udders that are there at the mo!! lol :-D
Thanks again
Thanks a lot for your reply.
When she feels like it, she lets th pups have a little suckle, but only very occasionally, as you say their teeth are very sharp so it's bound to be uncomfortable.
The pups have water available all the time, so they should get used to it soon!
Thanks again
