hii had a litter a week today and end up having c section but as she did not recover the vet said there may be internal bleeding so she was re opened up and the small bleed tied more. my question is she is eating drinking looking after pups fine but is still really panting.should i be worried

The same thing happened to my bitch but she was very anaemic.  So our vet gave her Iron tablets to take.  If your bitch's gums are pale it might be worth getting her checked again because if her red blood cell level is abit low, it will make her breathless.

Has she got the option of going somewhere cool if she is too hot? If the pups are on a heat pad there should be an area without that both Mum and pups can migrate to if things get too warm.

Normally panting is connected to the uterus contracting as the pups feed causing pain, if I remember rightly she was spayed so that won't be the cause.

Never had a bitch with low calcium[eclampsia] because I give calcium rich foods, I know the eventually have seizures but don't know if panting happens in the early stages.

Hopefully it is just a phase she is going through.

Think the same applies in this event as in any other if you are worried about your bitch then phone your vet, they will know if there is likely to be a problem and if they think not you can relax a bit.

Had a friend whose bitch whelped on Sunday, Bitch at vet on the Wednesday with hypocalcemia.
It's apparently rare but possible that a bitch can have normal bloods and systemic depletion,
which responds to calcium gluconate by intravenous method. The vet has to be careful as overdosing
can be harmful.

Be careful as if the panting worsens and she starts tremours/seizures she will need vets ASAP.

Sometimes the above can be brought on by having the room too hot for the bitch.
But you have to strike a balance by keeping the pups warm enough. (hence why some will use heat pads in whelping box)

had full blood works done had to phone this afternoon was told that slightly anemic and urea levels slightly raised but no treatment just keep an eye on her.was slightly dissappointed that nothing showed up as she is still panting.i think it could be stress as when she goes downstairs to toilet she seems a bit more relaxed
