Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Start of season???

I have been waiting for one of my girls to come and will be travelling over to Germany to mate her.  She was due anytime from 24th so when I came home yesterday and seen one of my girls humping her I checked her with a bit of tissue and there was some watery brownish colour so I thought she must be coming in will check her tomorrow.  Today just checked and the colour is slightly brownish red but still very watery looking???  Usually my girls go from nothing to proper blood.  I'm now confused as to do I start counting now (if this is even a proper season) or do I wait until it changes to proper bleeding?  My plan had been to leave on day 8 and get her tested as soon as we arrive but now I'm not sure what will count as day 8!!

They are all different.  Even the same bitch can do different things at each season.  I ALWAYS start counting from the first day there is any colour at all.  But I don't think I would travel to Germany without some indication by a blood test.  Even a Premate that said "Ovulation imminant re-test in one day" would be a help.

My trouble is last time the progesterone tests stayed very low (under 1 I think) right up until day 10 then soared!  So not sure there is much point doing early tests this time? It will take us 2 days to travel so could be a bit late if we wait until test results start to change.
Why do they like to complicate things!!!  lol

You may simply have to rely on the dogs like I have had to on both my overseas trips due to having to book flights the moment they came  in season.

It is quite common in our breed for the levers to shoot up very fast once they start going up, they don't often follow the norm of how it is supposed to happen :-)...
But then they don't always do that even if they have done it the last season.

Maybe she will start proper bleeding very soon to make it easier for you.
I would test on day 7 maybe just to make sure she is not close to getting there and prepare to travel and be near the stud from day 9 ready if the levels do what they did last time :). Or just travel there well and early and test once there as travel can affect the levels (slow the rising)
That way you are unlikely to miss the right time :-) Good luck!

to add I would probably get her tested before leaving and hopefully record some rising as you don't want to get to germany only to realise she is not even going to ovulate this season (happens as well :) ) and it is a false start/split season...

Thanks Noora.  She's well in season now!!!  :-)
I will probably get her tested Monday before I go.
Thanks
