Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Anal gland - creamy?
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 31.07.12 18:41 UTC
I'm just grooming a cocker, and when I emptied his anal glands, it was sort of creamy in colour and consistency rather than brown like usual. He didn't show any signs of discomfort, they didn't feel particularly full, and it wasn't a huge amount. But I've not seen it this colour before, should I suggest the owners pop to the vet some time? It definitely wasn't pale green or pussy looking. Answers before 9pm if poss please! :-)

I am surprised that you automatically emptied his anal glands when there wasn't a problem.

He may have picked up an infection and needs to be checked out at the vets.

I always check cockers and Cavaliers as they usually need emptying, and I often check other breeds too. And clearly if you think he has picked up an infection, there is a problem, which is why it's a good thing for a groomer to check.
