My bitch had 1 very quick slip mating 5 weeks ago. Because the mating was so brief I did not think there was any way she could be pregnant so have not had her scanned. I have noticed today she has a clear discharge which I have heard is a conclusive sign of pregnancy? but could she still have a discharge if she were having a phantom?
I don't want to get her scanned as the person I usually use is away and last time I took a bitch to my vet I wasn't allowed to go with her for the scan and when she was returned the vet had clipped a large patch of fur off her flank, apparently she couldn't scan without doing this?
If my bitch IS pregnant having her flank clipped won't be a problem but if not then it will mean she is out of the showring for a considerable time while it regrows.

they dont have to be cut for a scan look on the internet to find a mobile scanner ...and the discharge can happen when they are and a false one too :(

Thanks, I have not been able to find a mobile scanner. Maybe I am searching on the wrong thing? Can anyone recommend one near Chester? I know they don't need to clip the dogs so I was surprised when my vet did. I didn't expect them to do that.
She is now nearly 6 weeks post mating. I keep looking at her and can't decide if she is getting fatter. If she only has a small litter then I guess she won't put on much weight? Should I start worming her just in case or wait until I can find a scanner?

I am on Merseyside and use Keith from Fit and Fertile in Preston, don't know how far he will travel to do a scan.

I leave mine till 38/39days to scan so I know there is a viable pregnancy before starting daily worming and puppy kibble at day 42, been caught out in the past with phantoms which have continued till 7 weeks and then the bitch has returned to normal over night.
