Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / upset tum with Orijen
- By sillysue Date 11.07.12 18:10 UTC
My dogs have been on Orijen since the end of October but they  both became very hyper and over excited, their skin became flaky and they  developed runny bums. A few months ago I put them on rice and chicken for a few days till things settled down and then slowly put them back onto Orijen. The same problems developed again so I assume they may not thrive on so much protein and put them onto CSJ Tripe 3 weeks ago. Immediately their tums settled and now their coats are getting back to good and shiny.
As my little dog has joint problems I wondered about the Fish 4 Dogs as she loves the samples of this, but am scared to change food yet again and chance upsetting them again. Please can anyone advise whether the fish4dogs  is worth changing to in the long run, or should I leave them on the CSJ Tripe and maybe add supplements.
(If you suggest making the change  which flavour is best for joints )

If they are doing well on csj I would email them for info about their herbs or about a change of food within their range.  I am a total csj convert my dogs are doing fabulous on it and have also converted my housemate and the lady who runs my local dog daycare already!

Orijen does tend to produce wetter/tackier poos than other foods, but they shouldn't be actually runny.  I did have a problem with mine on it, but I persisted and eventually they got used to it and the poos have become ok (although not as dry as on other foods - I think because of the high protein content).

Fish4Dogs is a better food than CSJ, since Fish4 has around 55% meat content and CSJ only around 25% ish.  So well worth changing.

You might also like to use a supplement like Yumove and salmon oil for your dog with joint issues.

Yes, my picky girl's now eating Orijen and we had sloppy poos for a few days, though I think it's now improving. :-)

I am amazed at posts.  Since changing my GSD to Orijen some 9 months ago I have found the opposite.  his poo is firm and so easy to pick up when we are out.   I changed because he had been prone to upset tummies and has not had one upset since.

Runny poos all the way with Orijen too.
I used to fed Fish4Dogs but they did not appeciate it very much. Now I'm changing dry food every fortnight with no side effects.

Mine had sloppy poos on Orijen at first, but I think if you keep feeding it, their bodies adjust to the higher protein/meat content and it stops - at least, mine are now ok.

Moved them onto Fish4Dogs salmon and they love it ( clean shiny bowls) and absolutely picture perfect poos !!! So I think I'll stick with this now
