Topic Dog Boards / General / Silken Windhounds at the Houndshow
- By chaumsong Date 23.07.12 02:07 UTC
For anyone interested in the breed Silken Windhounds will be taking part in the rare breed parade at the Houndshow Ch show on 4th August. I think there will be 6 silkens there, along with other rare or endangered breeds.

If you don't know what a silken is here is one with it's distant borzoi cousin :-)
- By colliepam Date 23.07.12 07:28 UTC
aw,theyre lovely!And what a lovely name.
- By ridgielover Date 23.07.12 10:03 UTC
Can you remind us just before the show? I'd love to have a look but will have forgotten by then :)
- By chaumsong Date 23.07.12 11:14 UTC
If someone reminds me to remind you :-) I'll try and remember to bump this up the day before :-)
- By Nova Date 23.07.12 13:02 UTC
I'm stewarding in the main ring so with luck I may still be there when the parade takes place but knowing my luck I will have been sent for lunch. :-(

Chaumsong - do you have a website that you'd recommend for further reading about this breed please?

Thanks x

Oh of course, lots of them :-)

The International Silken Windhound Society - our parent club.

How silkens came about.

The European Silken Windhound Club under the show section here you can see results, critiques and photos of this years shows in Sweden and Finland, no photos for Germany yet.

If you're interested in learning more about silken windhounds the yahoo list is the best place, I'll send you the link if you want to join :-)

If you just want to look at pretty pictures of them then have a look here for photos from last years German show. I have about 800 pics from this year to sort through before I can put them up.

I've started working on a website myself, still in the construction stage but there are some show and fun photos of my two.

Anything else?

I know there seems to be some reluctance/animosity from some Whippet folk but I cant see a problem(like I do with Labradoodles & other designer crosses!!). To me, from pics I have seen, they look just like a smaller version of a Borzoi, which I should imagine makes them appealling to Borzoi people, as they get 'more mature in years' & more mantainable??

Exactly, not that I'm old mind you! ;-)

Similar to the situation with Cirneco's (which I am very taken with) and Pharoah Hounds and even Ibizans.
- By chaumsong Date 26.07.12 10:59 UTC
It seems there will be a few more silkens now, hopefully 10 or more. I'm going down too for the day so say hello if you see someone with 2 collies and 2 silkens :-)

Just looking at the 'here' link photos, wonderful, lots of lovely dogs but one question pic on 1st page of Kristall Paladin, is it me or is it the photo or is the dog bigger than the others?

Love the look of Zois and loved the ones I have met but just too big but as others have said now Silkens..............???

> Kristall Paladin, is it me or is it the photo or is the dog bigger than the others?

Yes he is, he is about 66/67cm. About 6 years ago, and after much deliberation, the ISWS decided to add in another borzoi line for gene diversity. Paladin is a result of this mating - silken to borzoi. He's too big to be shown really but important to the gene pool and a lovely dog, and a demon on the lure :-)

Yep, you can fit more of them on your sofa for sure ;-)

Hopefully we will see you Jane. We'll be with the PBGV's and our breeder should be in the parade too with their Griffon Fauve, Arnie who is just a sweetie :-D
- By HuskyGal Date 04.08.12 22:21 UTC
Saw your photos on Facebook Jane! Well done, keep promoting this glorious breed ~ blooming gutted I didn't get to catch up with you when you were darn sarf :0( but I'm definitely going to get my Spice and Milly hug in soon!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.08.12 08:42 UTC
I saw them at Houndshow and asked if anyoen was a champdogger and got blanck stares, so obviously didn't catch you, LOL
- By chaumsong Date 05.08.12 09:17 UTC
Oh sorry Barbara, I would have liked to meet you, I was standing in a group with 5 silkens and the 2 collies all day but wasn't in the actual parade. Spice went in with his breeder and her 3 :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.08.12 09:18 UTC
We were in the main ring, and I spotted the ladies outside it after judging, and several times after by the bandstand thingy.
- By chaumsong Date 05.08.12 09:24 UTC
Yes, we were next to the wall by the bandstand :-) we probably walked right past each other!
- By ridgielover Date 05.08.12 11:32 UTC
I managed to meet some :)
- By Nova Date 05.08.12 11:43 UTC
Unfortunately I was unable to make the show at all and would have loved to have met you and your dogs.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 05.08.12 19:38 UTC
I'm sad now, I had one want to enter my rally trial, but it's full and I can't fit them in. I wanted to see one in the flesh!
- By inka [ie] Date 07.08.12 09:57 UTC
I saw photos of the show from Facebook and it looked fabulous, I am definitely thinking of coming over from Ireland for it next year.
- By chaumsong Date 07.08.12 11:25 UTC
Oh Lucy I wonder who that was? Glad your trial is so well supported though :-)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 07.08.12 18:30 UTC
Yes, I've got so much interest I've had to turn people away because I didn't give my judges enough time for lunch! We desperately need more rally judges!
