I recently saw an advert for a German Shepard puppy, saying that It did not have any papers.
Please can someone tell me what this means, as I thought all pedigree dogs had to have papers.

Hi Guest,
This means that the puppy has not been registered with the kennel club, it may have pedigree papers but the owners, for some reason have chosen (or not able) to register the litter. Before purchasing, i would find out why they are not registered and possibly look for an alternative breeder- who has registerd pups.

Hi
'papers' usually means KC registration papers,so no papers means it's not registered with the Kennel club.
However I have heard of people refering to other registrations(for example'Dog lovers') as papers and also a pedigree sheet as papers so be sure of what you want and make sure you get it.
KC registration is the ONLY way to be sure of the pedigree of your dog.You should also be aware that without papers will also mean that no health checks were done on the parents(hip score etc)
You will also find that many non papered dogs end up looking very different from what the breed is supposed to look like but there is an old saying-you get what you pay for so bare in mind cheap is probably not going to be good-especially in the dog world.

hi archer,
went to microchip, three dogs this week, one being a g.s.d bitch, 18 mnths with a litter of nine pups, no papers, no health checks, not resemling what i would call a g.s.d and selling the pups for £200, afraid i gave him a lecture on the ethics of being a responsible breeder, the pups were filthy, and so was the house, five kids, i had to count to a hundred to stop myself going in to one, i cryed when i got home, to think what will become of those pups, how many will end up in rescue, how many may be put to sleep, or will be affected with bad hips, regards tina
