Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Time to consider a crate trolley...
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 24.07.12 20:04 UTC
I never thought I would be saying this, but then I reckoned without age, sciatica and the impact of carrying two crates, up to four medium gundogs and all their assorted bits and pieces. I think the time has come to investigate a trolley of some description--but not one that you can load all the dogs into, I was thinking more a sack truck or basic trolley. So does anyone have any recommendations, any "don't go there" advice for us? Thanks again everyone!

I have one of these http://www.croftonline.co.uk/scp/Trolleys_Tables_and_Tops/products.asp?partno=LWT1  for my (folded) crate, grooming table and other paraphenalia - quite light, sturdy, very easy to steer and large wheels make it manouverable even on wet / long grass.

After assisting a friend at Crufts with 2 crates on a trolley with 3 mini dachsies plus chair and other bits and pieces, plus my own baggage [no dogs] I decided there was no way I was going down that route and saved up for a show trolley,I had a look at them at Crufts and liked what I saw, it comes apart completely so no part is too heavy for me to lift out of the car, has hole for a brolly or sun shade and the lid is padlocked in place and one door has a lock and I can padlock the rest.

This looks interesting. I can see it being very useful for outdoor shows, but just a bit concerned that indoors it would block up the aisle and I would get in people's way...any thoughts?

Thanks Rhodach, I think this is more than I need or can afford--although when you break it down to the cost of two crates a top you can use for grooming, a trolley and space to stow your stuff, perhaps they aren't so very expensive after all.

The lid of mine has a rough surface for grooming and is at a great height for my small dogs.

Ours is Croft, bought it about 14 years ago and still as good as new, sadly they don't make that model now. It has BIG wheels which will go over (and through) anything. Over the years I've heard so many people saying that their trolley has small wheels and is a nightmare.

I tend to roll mine at a perpendicular angle under my grooming table and keep all my other stuff on it (so my stuff is not sitting on a hairy floor) at open shows,or if by benching I fold down the large wheels and slide it under the benching. I also use a stretchy cargo net that I got for £6 from amazon to secure everything whilst on the move.

I bought a fishing trolley, big wheels, can carry 3 folded crates, small grooming table and chairs (just) folds down once inside and slips behind the crates.
Huge wheels are lovely :-)

bit like this one
