i was wondering if anyone can help me i own a dog and female.
shes come into heat and stands for him but he wont mount her from behind but hes quite happy to hump her head has anyone got any advice or tipd thst to help me!
hes getting very frustrated and ive tried to nudge him round to her rump but he loses interest and gets off!!

Is this your first time as you should be aware of the optimum time that a bitch is likely to be receptive so what day is she on ? Also are both the bitch and dog maidens as that will also add difficulties ?

Have you got a mentor that can also help as advice from an experienced breeder is also a good thing to have rather than guessing and doing it on your own .

Firstly how do you know she is ready?  Have you had her progesterone tested?  If your relying on behaviour alone and both are maidens you may not get a mating.

To be honest it is best to take your (I assume fully health tested) maiden bitch to an experienced outside stud dog.

It is rare to have the ideal mate for your own bitch living with you unless he he was bought specifically to complement her good points and improve any weaknesses, and he has matured according to early promise.

As for your dog, if he has done well at shows and/or proved a good worker then people will ask to use him and his first bitch is best to be one who has had a litter or two and is steady and kind so that he gains confidence.

I am sure I have heard that dogs kept as house pets with bitches are sometimes not willing to mate their house mate at all or at least not until they have some experience of their duties, it may well be a different story if the bitch is experienced as she will manoeuvre him to the correct place - it is however fraught with possible problems if you are all virgins, you, the dog and the bitch would take the advice given by Brainless and send her to a proven stud that may well need to wait till the next season.
