hey guys,
my bitch is 5 weeks in pup, was confirmed by scan at 28 days. earlier in the week one of my dogs came down with a vommiting and diarhoea bug and although we kept the dogs seperate i think my girl may have a slight case of it.
she didnt eat breakfast, which i wasnt too worried about as she has been like that for the last couple of days. but tonight she hasnt eaten tea no matter what ive offered, and she has been biling up all night. she has since started sounding like she is struggling to breath, almost like she has a cold.
im a little worried but have no access to a vet untill morning. is there anything i can do over night or just have to wait and see?
Dogs often bring up bile when they have an empty stomach, can you not even get her to take anything from you feeding by hand a piece of chicken, mince meat something that she won't turn her nose up at? Hopefully when you say she sounds like she is struggling to breathe you are meaning that her nose sounds blocked whilst breathing, it could be some bile in the nasal passage?
If you mean she is actually struggling then call a vet to your home immediately, not sure what the hour difference is between our countries but if it were my girl, I would call out a vet if really worried.
It is extremely difficult to know on a forum whether it is something to worry about or not as we can't actually see her.
She may well be starting with a sickness and diarhoea bug or it could be something else?
Personally, I would not be leaving her side at all and if your instincts say something is wrong get the vet in, we may advise you for a sickness bug and it could be the wrong thing entirely making things worse.
Good luck at the vets, hope that she is ok.
thanks for the reply, yes it does sound like her nose is blocked.
i have tried lots to get her to eat, chicken soup, cooked chicken mince, raw chicken, raw beef, kibble, cheese, cheese sausages, toast, ham, dog roll. she is relly not interested in anything.
its currently 11pm at our place
Well, all the food you have tried to give sounds wonderful what a shame she will not take it, have you tried sitting next to her and feeding her too?
Some bitches can go through phases of going on and off food whilst in whelp, it is not unusual, never had that problem myself but I know some bitches do.........
But, of course it could be that she is genuinely unwell, alas only the vet can know for sure.
Let us know what the vet says. :-)

Is she drinking? I would be very worried if she had stopped drinking too as she will become dehydrated.
I think a trip to the vets is needed for peace of mind.

Personally I would still be calling the vet, and not begrudge the out of hours charge. I wouldn't be at all happy about any breathing difficulty. She probably can't eat because of the breathing problem. I would want to know what is causing it.
just back from vet. everything seemed alright bar a little blood when taking her temp which vet wasnt too worried about. It looks like she has a slight case of the bug that my other dog had and general morning sickness. so she is now on anti nausea pills and antibiotics. If no improvement in the next couple of days she is going in for an xray.
pups sounded fine :)
