I have a 2 1/2 year old bitch who has had 4 seasons and is not on her 5th season. She started bleeding on 2nd July 2011, I have taken her to the stud dog from day 9 until today but has not been responsive to the stud dog, on day 9 she was more responsive.
She is still actually bleeding and still swollen but not as much as she was earlier on.
Any advice what to do now?

Have an Idexx test done then you'll know when she ovulates.

Would it not be too late for that test now?

Who would know when she ovulates without testing?  If you don't know, the stud dog owner doesn't know, then it's all you've got. :)

According to my calculations she is only day 13, that may still be too early, I mate day 12 +14 and the only time it failed was with one bitch who ovulated on day 8.

What is the stud dog doing,is he really eager or is he being half hearted,is he experienced?

Are you holding her head end to control her reactions to the situation and preventing injury to either dog if she changes her mind as they tie

I trust both dogs have had all the health tests with good results

Good Luck

The stud dog is proven, very eager!
Just checked my dog, she is still bleeding and swollen but not as swollen as she was a couple of days ago.
Going to stud dog again tomorrow.

Bleeding is not an indicator in any way.  One of my bitches bleeds all the way through her season, and through mating, it doesn't affect the result if a bitch is mated at the right time.

I have read so many times that people have been waiting for "straw colour discharge" to mate a bitch, and I have never seen said discharge in 35 years.

My girl ovulated on day 16 last mating.
The Idex really helped as she was bang on 62 days when she started her labour.
