Bitch had 2 matings a week apart. When she was scanned, the scanner was adamant she was only 4 weeks so would indicate 2nd mating.. Her teats are really big now so just in case have been taking her temp for last few days. Monday was 110.6, yesterday 98.4 and 99. Today it is 96.6. I have used temp charts in past, sometines text book but other times not so. Any thoughts on how much I should read into this low temp. No other signs, still eating etc. Thanks

I think you can count that as a considerable drop. I think if its below 97 from what ive read. Ohhhhhhh puppies will be along shortly :)
sounds like its not going to be to long now then ,the temp drop can be just before pups OR can indecate 24h before she starts labour then pedends how quick she whelps! x

I would have been really worried at a temp of 110 as the normal temp for a dog the vet told me is 102-103, I haven't had any success with temp taking, if you spear a poo it can mess with the figures.

Whoops! That should have said 100.6 :-)

That sounds better but then doesn't make the drop that much, some bitches will eat right up to labour and given the chance will eat between pups too, not good if you need a c/section as they could aspirate the stomach contents into the lungs if the airway is not protected.

Now its up at 98.6. Guess she will keep me guessing for the next week or so :-)
when you get a good drop 97-95 and it stays down then thats a sign!! when labour starts (and some times some bitches dont show any thing) the temp then goes back up! then mum whelps :) ...but the low does have to stay low for a good few hours too its then the start:)

In later stages of pregnancy temp will typically show an initial drop of a degree or so and stabilise there for a week, when you spot the second dip you should be game on. good luck xxx
