Finally things seem to be going in the right direction re health checks and gaining champ status at least for 15 breeds anyway

Pleased to see dachsies are not on the list but then I have PRA status on all mine.

Not sure why this has only been published on the KC website on 09/07/12 as these checks were brought in months ago resulting in the CA being formed by various top judges/exhibitors

These checks were introduced at Crufts, Rhodach.

Certificates like that have no bearing on the tests - it's only outward appearance that's of concern in these tests. Dogs with clear certificates have failed the tests.

What sort of things are they checking for? Do they have computer access to check any tests you say you have had done.

No, it's visual only; they're supposed to be looking for the same sort of thing that a judge would see. In the eye tests they're checking for raised third eyelids, entropion, ectropion, conjunctivitis etc. They check for lameness, skin irritation and ease of respiration.

And they're subjective 'on the day' tests; a dog can pass at one show and fail at another.
