This is my first time as a breeder, and my vet advised me to get some welpi in , for emergencies. I will not interfere with Alice's feeding of the pups unless there is a problem, but,I have a problem.

The instructions are so complicated i can't work out how i would mix up the stuff!!!

so, can anyone enlighten me please? as a midwife I know how important it is to get the feed dilution exact............

I've not used Welpi, what don't you understand,I used to be a midwife too, isn't it similar to baby milk, so many scoops to ounces/mls of water?

It's easy.

There's a little blue scoop inside. Just put 1 level scoop of powder into a sterilised mixing container along with 2 level scoops of boiled & cooled water, and blend with an electric whisk for a few seconds (sterilise the blades/attachment, obviously).

^^That amount won't make very much though so you 'll have to work out how much you need per day for the weight and number of pups, and make a daily batch to store in the fridge.

We're hand rearing a litter of 12 newborns at the moment so i've become quite the expert with whelpi and lactol LOL.

You have got your hands full, can I be nosey and ask what happened that their dam isn't raising them?

We're not totally sure what happened but the dam was loaded with milk prior to the birth but then she had a c-section & spay and there was next to no milk left when we got her home. We tried massaging her teats and putting pups on her to stimulate more milk production etc etc but it just turned a nasty caramel sort of colour so we opted for hand rearing instead. The vet said that internal bruising/bleeding may have contaminated her milk but personally i think it was a hormonal issue due to having a c-section & spay at the same time.
Needless to say i am NOT having a very good time at the moment!!!!!

Thanks for explaining, as I said on another thread normally  post c/section they are given oxytocin to cause the uterus to contract and seal off the placental beds, with her being spayed there was no need for the oxytocin but it also helps let the milk down.

I certainly don't envy your task, my breed has max 6 pups thus far only 3 or 4 pups per litter for me.
