I'd cut it back a bit and see how it goes, maybe 40g to begin with. Is that the only meal she has or is it split over 2 (which would probably suit her better)?
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 05.07.12 16:22 UTC
It's the only meal, all my adults just get the one meal a day.
- By Pedlee Date 05.07.12 16:28 UTC
If the quantity she is on now was split between 2 meals it may resolve the problem. I'm sure if my lot had one meal a day they would probably become loose.

Mine have always done fine on 1 meal a day. We did try with this picky one doing 2 meals, but it's so difficult to persuade her to eat once a day, let alone twice!

The CSJ samples have arrived now - not sure whether to try them or wait to see if things settle on Orijen.....

Offer everything and see what she goes for?
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 06.07.12 16:42 UTC
I've done that before actually, put 2 or 3 bowls down for her!

Miss Picky says she doesn't want anything tonight, not Orijen mixed with beef and certainly not that CSJ stuff, am I trying to poison her??? Probably not a bad idea to starve her for a night as her tummy's still a little funny. Gave her a digestive tablet this morning. Hope to have a cleaner kitchen floor tomorrow morning!

My dustbin wouldn't touch CSJ so if your picky girly doesn't eat it I wouldn't be surprised..!

I have a picky critter at the moment (she is 10m and far too busy to eat, and she'll only eat when she wants and if it takes her fancy) and we're having good luck currently with a mix of tripe, biscuit and goats milk

Even my partner's fussy shih tsu who will only eat special little dog food that comes in teeny tiny chunks will scavenge my twos csj meals and shoves them out of the way for it lol

I think the CSJ is going to be too big in size and perhaps too hard as well. But she's enjoying the Orijen. Hoping to get the sloppy poos under control now - the ones she does during the day are more or less ok, but it's the overnight ones that are nasty, and she never used to poo overnight, although this is the one that doesn't care about weeing in the kitchen if she wakes early! Maybe some of that pro-kaolin stuff would help?

Might be tempted to reduce the overall amount and split into 2 or more feeds perhaps while she gets used to it it could be the richness that is making her loose
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 09.07.12 18:08 UTC
I've reduced the amount a bit, but although she is happy to eat this kibble for now (mixed with a little beef mince!) I don't want to risk asking her to eat twice a day, it's such a tiresome effort when she doesn't want to eat!

Having toys that run the risk of hypoglycemia, I have always fed twice a day.  Collies were only fed once a day years ago, but have found better tummies since splitting the food into 2 meals.

Your toys are much tinier than mine though. :-) I know many people with my breed do feed twice a day, but I've never had any trouble feeding once a day. Of course puppies get 3/4 meals a day, my 8 month is still on 2 meals. But with 4 to feed, I'd have trouble getting everyone fed and walked in the morning before going to work. Yes, I could get up 15 minutes earlier I know - and if the tummy doesn't settle down soon I will give it a try. But I'd just as soon not if I don't have to! At least now we've found something she will (so far) eat, mealtimes don't last 40 minutes with all the messing around - there's no way I'm getting up 45 minutes earlier in order to try and persuade a fussy dog to eat! :-D Tonight we're going to put the one that barks in the lounge, and leave the dog door open in the hope that if the picky one needs to poo in the night, she will go outside.....

ROFLMAO!!   :-)  :-)  :-)

Sorry, won't tell you how many I have then!!

Yes, I know you have a lot! :-D I find 4 quite enough to cope with though!! Leaving the dog door open worked anyway, don't know if she needed to use it or not but I had a clean floor this morning which is a good thing.

You wouldnt put a 10oz steak in front of an anorexic and expect them to eat it all? But you might get them to eat 2oz 2/3 times through the day ?

I feed 4 dogs twice a day no problem :)

It's not exactly the same thing though. :-) But I did try her on 2 meals a day at the start of this year, and she wasn't at all keen. I find my dogs generally go off a meal when they are ready to drop it.

always feed my lot twice a day and always have done.  And as for getting up 15 mins earlier, thats exactly what I do to ensure that the dogs get everything they need before I go to work to pay for them LOL 5.45am anyone?
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 13.07.12 16:43 UTC
Lol we're out walking by then before breakfast ;-)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 13.07.12 18:29 UTC
Nah, sorry, my dogs don't seem all that neglected, they get a walk before work, cuddles at lunchtime, and meals, training, cuddles, sofa etc in the evening. They seem fine on it. :-)
