Has anyone any experience of feeding Apple Cider Vinegar for UTI? I have a 9 yr old spayed bitch who has started to have very stained 'knickers' she doesnt appear to be incontinent, there is no blood, no excessive drinking, she has no frequency of micturation, and watching her wee, there is no sign of pain or reluctance, but she doesnt smell pleasant and,  as I said, staining all around her trouser feathering. I have trimmed them all off and keep her clean.  I am reluctant to go to straight to antibiotic treatment, and wondered if anyone had tried this or maybe Cranberry juice? Thanks.

Would seek the advice of a vet before I did anything it can cause added or different problems to self diagnose and treat before you have a diagnoses.

My understanding is that apple cider vinegar is for yeast infections not UDI. I would be very reluctant to use this without veterinary advice.

Dogs (and/or bitches) often don't show signs of pain, they can be very stoical.  It doesn't mean they aren't feeling pain though. 

It may be that your bitch is 'holding it in' despite needing to pee more frequently, because it's painful ;)  this may then lead to leaking.  

Much as I try to avoid vets if possible and antibiotics (long story) this is one of the times I would be straight there with no hesitation ;)

My youngest Bearded Collie (she is 12 next month), always had the strongest smelling urine.  I agree with Dill about them being too stoical for their own good.

My girl was put on antibiotics for something else, and her smelly pee disappeared, and I wished I had done something about it sooner.  She was fine for a couple of years, and the next time I smelled smelly wee, I collected a sample and shot off to the vets and had it tested.  I was given antibiotics again.  Cleared very quickly, and I would never again deny a bitch antibiotics for this complaint. 

I would urge anyone to take this seriously.

Having suffered a bad case of Cystitis and not able to reach a doctor for 4 days, I would consider it the ultimate in cruelty to deny a vet for suspected cystitis.  I've had morphine for less pain than that
