Topic Dog Boards / Health / Sudden and large quantity of leaking wee
- By LJS Date 03.07.12 15:48 UTC
Taken the girls put as normal and no signs of any excessive urinating.

Since they have been back Betty seem to be leaking urine in a major way. She is absolutely soaked where she has been lying.

I got her up to go onto a bed and after 5 minutes the bed is sodden.

Never shown signs before if incontinence of any signs of a UTI.

Will get her to the vets but has anybody seen anything like this excess or come of seemingly so quickly ?

Spoken to my vets as because it is do sudden and so much he doesn't want her left so waiting for my OH to get home as he is in the dog car.

Poor girl is not happy as she is constantly having to clean herself but not stopping making a mess :-(

Seen similar with my last dog, needed to wee frequently then within a couple of hours he was leaving puddles that he couldn't control and they were the colour of undiluted ribena - he had cystitis.

Best of luck at the vets.

Oh poor Betty ....hope she is okay (and that it's nothing to do with Odin peeing on her at the weekend!)

How are you going to get her to the vets. Lucy?

Mike has left work early and appointment made.

No don't think Odin's sprinkling is the cause !

Still wet overnight. She is on ABs and if there is no sign of inprovement by Friday she has to go back for further investigations.

She is fine in herself and eating well and still no excessive drinking.

The vet was surprised with the amount of wee that came out during the examination. He thinks what ever is going on her bladder is in spasm and is treating initially for an infection as she has got a raised temp.

Is she spayed Lucy?
- By LJS Date 04.07.12 07:24 UTC
Yes soon after we rescued her about three years ago as she had Pyometra.

She has shown no signs of leaking since then.

Oh poor Betty x My initial thought was incontinence but the suddenness and amount can't be that?

Hope all is better soon though - sending tummy tickles !

l had a spayed bitch with this many years ago - she was about 8 at the time - urine poured from her and she was treated for Cystitis - unfortunately it was the start of incontinence for her :(... Hope all goes well with Betty. :)

I have just been through the last month with this situation... first we tested for uti, bladder stones and all came back negative. My girl is 9,was spayed at six, and just presented with the full flooding. This was occuring both day and night....I have put her on incurin tablets, for post spay incontinence,1mg a day and on the third day she was dry again. We are now on day ten of the meds and I am about to try alternate days and see if she remains dry.Good luck...I know just what you are going through.
In the meantime if you can sew,I suggest making waterproof sheets from a single cotton bed sheet cut into two, and backed in polythene.  These make great ,cheap protectors. I also slip a poly waste bag over my dog mattresses,to keep them dry, then cover the lot with a duvet type cover which is easily slipped off and washed.
I also take the dog out at ten pm to be sure she has an empty bladder to face the night ahead. This has helped greatly.

Best to check with the vet if the dog is on any medication as cranberry can have a contra indication to some drugs.
