I posted about my dog peg not so long ago,she has injured her left hind leg and knee joint was swollen, xrays showed no breaks or ligament damage thank god,vet put this down to an arthritis flare up(rheumatoid)
At the time she had been off steroids and was fantastic but vet said put her back on steroids for short time starting at 10mg a day,as she had been off them for some months and had not had a high dose for many years she reacted badly ,was really distressed, panting restless, would not sleep,so stopped this straight away and lowered dose to 5mg and now 2.5mg a day.
She now puts weight on this leg but its not all the time.
My problem is that although i know recovery will be painfully slow i need to know what I should be doing, and im not sure that I do.With steroids my dog is totally depressed,i know that i need to get her moving a little ,as if left she wil lay in her bed all day,she has had two very gentle short walks, where I have had to stop her from trying to go too fast,so the spirit is willing, both were about 15 minutes, should I be doing this every day? or every other day, I think she is uncomfortable for a awhile after but always wants to go,after being shut in the house for two weeks she does need to get out.
Im considering hydrotherapy, there is a place in whitstable that seems to tick all the boxes but worried that it will stress her,she has never wanted to go swimming in the sea but i wonder with hydrotherapy if she might get used to it? they look very professional and I take it they would know straight away if she wasn't happy.
And last of all im going to take her to a spiritualist church for some faith healing.
Is there anything else I should be doing?I just want her back to her brilliant self, for a dog of 12(saluki) she was bounding through the long grass before this happened,im terrified we wont get there, but also aware that i need to show some patience.
Any advice, experience i would be very grateful,
Ashlie.
