My bitch has become very clingy and just wants to be by my side for the past 2 days. She normally isnt too fussed and goes about doing her own thing but shes took to sleep right by my side no matter where im sat. She had a first tie a week ago tomorrow. Is this normal behaviour?

Stop looking for signs you'll drive yourself crazy lol.

Any signs you see as pregnancy can also be signs for a phantom, so stop looking!! You'll go nuts :)  Wait till scan time and just treat her like normal till then.  If you manage to do any of this, can you let me know how?  I never manage to follow my own advice!

We sure do lol, i was quite lucky with my bitch on her litter as it was pretty obvious from 2 weeks she was pregnant and as she had previously had phantom pregnancies i knew this was different. Good luck :-)

I agree with the others, you still have another 8 weeks before the pups are due,at least 4 weeks till she looks pregnant, 5 weeks till you can feel pups move etc.

One of my girls had 4 phantoms, first one lasted 7 weeks, the others 6 weeks then overnight she would be back to normal, once I mated both bitches and the one having the phantom looked more pregnant than the one who actually was pregnant.

As to clinginess they can vary, her hormones will be all to pot so she may just looking for sympathy.

I was the same, I could see so many little signs but even when she was six weeks and had a pot belly I just had to ignore them until the ultrasound was done.

I agree with Rhodach, I had two bitches mated within 2 weeks of each other 1 had a phantom the other whent on to have a singleton, The one who had the phantom looked more pregnant than the pregnant one, she had the sickness around 2-3 weeks, was nesting, put weigh on had milk, whilst my other one had no milk until 2 days after having a section and she didn't put much weight on at all. When you do go for scan don't take what they say as gosbel on numbers i was told 2 maybe 3 the week before she was due but she only had one

But your vet didn't say it was gospel.  In an earlier thread you said that he thought there were 2, so not really the gospel.  Vets give approximate numbers rather than swear they have it right, because clients want an idea.

I only ever hear of sheep scanners giving definite numbers.  And vets do more than just scan, so honestly don't have the same experience as a sheep scanner.

Even the day before one of mine whelped the vet wouldn't commit herself to numbers, the scan was done at my request to ensure the pups were OK.

When I get a bitch scanned at 4/5 weeks all I am looking for is conformation of pregnancy as pups can die and be absorbed in the remaining weeks, if I wanted numbers then I would get her Xrayed 10 days before due date, puppy size can be compared with pelvis size, any breeches will be obvious but as we don't know which horn will empty first it's not possible to tell where in the order of things those pups will fall.

Sheep scanners are used to giving numbers as the farmers like to know which ones are carrying more than one lamb as they may have problems at lambing time and can only cope with feeding 2 lambs.
