You just can't believe how utterly stupid people really are. Perhaps a prosecution a ban for owning dogs for life would make people think twice , poor dogs :-(
thing is if the kc make the rule they should uphold it and start banning people, either uphold the rule or get rid of it, in agility we have our dogs in the cars but we take precautions, and we also go back and forward to the car throughout the day , but when you are breed showing the difference is you can be parked quite away from your car and also you do not need to go back to your car once you are set up in the show.
So come on KC get some balls and ban them you can but won't so you are to blame as well

Can't really blame the KC? The society will probably have to report it to them first and maybe societies aren't reporting it or if they are a registration of a car isn't much use to the KC, they need exhibitor details.

The announcements kept coming all day, but it seemed from listening the parking officials if vans were open and the breeze blowing through and no sign of the dogs being in distress they were left. Danes were halted at one point due to someone clearly not going back to their vehicle..
I don't understand why. There was an unentered tent there with spaces, many were actual show dogs which people decided to leave in the van versus the bench or crates by the rings..
One temp taking they said was 40 degrees inside one vehicle with a dog in.. The average was high 20's, low 30's all day and it was humid!!!!
Smashing of windows and removing of dogs needs to take place. Naming shaming helps too, but just a reg and breed isn't doing much. All breeds need to be halted and all dogs need to be out of vehicles, they can't pick and choose IMO!!

If parking tickets are present then a number is on it, exhibitor details can be obtained easily!!
In general the most dog's being left were in the disabled/members parking area...

On the car parking ticket at Border Union your ring number was written on it which I thought was a brilliant idea. I have since wondered though about the shows were you do not have a car park pass. So, I wondered that as the KC have just brought in the new ruling about cages having ring numbers on then why can't they do the same thing and say that ALL cars have to have the ring number let on the dashboard!. Then the announcements would be made easier for the car parking attendants and they could actually call the persons name over the tannoy instead. Name and shame!

Disgusting and I agree with naming and shaming. It is soooooo hot here in Manchester today, extremely unbearable so I can imagine what it's like down south. Hope all dogs were OK.

Yes but not all leave their car park tickets on display, especially those would probably are going to leave dogs in cars!
it is ok saying that you have to report them to the kc, and that maybe hard to do if you just have a car reg, but i am sure there will be someone from the kc at most of the shows, and when a call goes out over the tannoy surely they could step in and wait for the person returning to the car and taking details, i for one would be quite willing to do this but have nothing to do with the kennel club apart from shows and breeding the odd litter now and again.

But what I am saying Gemma is that KC should make a ruling that you HAVE to leave your ring number on your dash (not your car park pass) There would be no worry about whose car you went in as the ring number would still have to be left in that particular car. They have done it with crates so why not.

It was absolutely boiling at Norfolk & Norwich today, there was no way I would have left my dog in a car for 2 minutes in that heat!
It was ridiculously hot in Windsor today and yet some idiots leave their dogs in their cars!! The Leonberger judging [which was before us] was halted at least ones because of dogs left in the cars. I mean HOW stupid do you have to be...
The KC disciplinary committee are pretty quick to band and fine exhibitors who have shown abuse to their dogs at shows - ie. harsh treatment, kicking, etc, as well as those who are verbally abusive to judges. They should take the same stance on exhibitors who leave dogs in cars in extreme temperatures. But as with everything else they will probably sit back and do nothing constructive on something that really matters.
And on the topic of dogs in hot cars. What about the dogs at shows who are dragged around in the flaming sun, and lie gasping one the verge of collapse at their owners feet while the owners sit enjoying a nice cold drink or ice cream at the catering area! Having lived in a hot country I know it is just as easy and quick for a dog to suffer heat stroke outside in the sun in high temperatures as it is in a car!

Yes, I was slightly startled at my friend who (understandably) didn't want to leave her dogs unattended in their crate and was therefore intending to take them round the agricultural show with her yesterday. I wasn't bothered about whether or not I went round the show, so I told her to leave them in the crate and I'd watch them as well as mine. Had a nice time sitting in dappled shade eating an ice lolly instead of trudging round the show in the blazing heat! :-)

I understand what you are saying but who would police this? At our breed club shows in Feb/April/May, only 1 had a field officer which was due to a venue change, at the unbenched shows I saw a few with numbers on the crates but not all
Same would happen with car parks, yes they could turn up at the gate with their numbers displayed but once parked up they could quickly hide it and off they trot.
As for the KC taking the persons details should they be found to have dogs in their car, what power does the KC have to make someone hand over their details? It should be a Police/RSPCA matter than a KC matter.
Don't get me wrong, I am not defending those who leave dogs in hot cars I'm just giving another perspective.
One of my biggests concerns is those with vans and no windows............you can see into a car easily but a van with no windows!? How do the car park inspectors know if a dog is in there or not?

I sat with the girlies in the shade all day at Windsor yest and it was still hot hot hot... We left about 2pm and I did not do any shopping because it was too hot to walk round with the girlies. I will not leave them anywhere so the shopping is abandoned in favour of the girls comfort. I saw 2 car park stewards walking round the members car park as I got to the car. Some vehicals had dogs but were well covered with reflective shades and doors wide open with caged doors. I did see one or two who looked very comfortable in fact happier than in the show. However the dogs left in small cages with just windows open are death traps.
! thing a way needs to be found to identify a car. Maybe a number on the parking ticket that identifies you to the show society but not a ring number for safety's sake, (Too easy for a burglar to check your number against a catalogue and nip off to burgle you while the dogs are out !) Carpark tickets displayed in the car should be compulsary and then the job is done. Those car without tickets displayed should be fined at the least.
Anyone who's dog is found in distressed should be banned for life from all KC shows. Do that to one or two and the other offenders would soon drop into line.

Not the first time this has happened at Windsor. Not only are competitors dogs in cars but members of the public turn up with their pets to have a look and find they can't bring their dogs in. So what do they do................pop them back in the car and go in anyway. How should this be overcome?
Additional note: I was at Three Counties when a guy with a "pet" Ridgeback came up and asked for advice. The RR was obviously a juvenile with the type of manner that can go with an unchecked male of this age. As there was no one on the gates he and his family had popped in to have a look round.
By the time I left the RR was lunging at everything - although not in ernest, just pushing his luck, but those on the other end didn't see it like this.
I know the weather wasn't great and manning the gate is a thankless task but "rules is rules" and they are there for a reason.

this happened at Windsor 3 years ago when it was extremely hot , and they stopped judging then because some RC's were left in a car under trees. I'd rather leave an unentered dog at home then subject it to hours in car on a hot day.

I was very impressed with the wardens patrolling the members car park at Windsor yesterday. We had opened up the car and put 1 dog in the car in her cool coat and told the warden we were going back to get the other 2 dogs and he quite rightly said, I will give you 5 minutes. We were back in 2 minutes so everyone was happy.

I was at Windsor today and it wasn't particularly hot (we had some rain) and overcast pretty much all day. I was very impressed when the tannoy gave a reg out and followed it up by saying that under no circumstances were dogs to be left in cars at this show. Also there were signs saying that Windsor Show would not have dogs left in cars. It is about time that other societies gave out the same call.

As someone else has said dogs attending agility shows are normally left in cars BUT the cars are covered, windows and tailgates are open and the interior of the cars is often a far cooler place to be than outside. The back of my car is crated so the tailgate can be left open, I use reflective covers on the windscreen and for the sides of the car I use old sheets to cover them. The windows are open as well and my dogs have water in their crates at all times. I padlock the crates and then lock the car doors. I usually attend these shows by myself and have to leave my dogs whilst I walk the courses and day parking can sometimes be a goodly distance from the rings - at one show a friend attended it took over 20 minutes to get from the cars to the rings.
When a show is entered your entry form states that you agree to abide by the rules and regulations and these are listed on the schedule. One of the rules is regarding dogs left in vehicles in hot weather and states that if your dog is found to be at risk forcible entry to your vehicle may be necessary without liability for any damage caused. On the very rare occasions when a dog has been left in a car without adequate ventilation and shade other competitors are very quick to notify the show secretary and a call is put out - registration number and make of car. I have been to several shows where officials spend all day walking around the car parks checking that no dogs have been left in unsafe circumstances.
The regulations also state that "an exhibitor or competitor whose dog is entered at a KC Licensed event should take all responsible steps to ensure the needs of their dogs are met and should not knowingly put their dogs health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. A breach of this regulation may be referred to the general committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations". I would imagine similar wording is used for showing dogs so the KC should be informed of anyone who has breached the regulations. People do get fined and or banned from competing in agility shows so I would imagine the same thing would happen for infringements in the showing world.
