Anyone any experience of this?
I did a site search but it seems to be all ears, Zuma has a nose problem and after nearly 2 weeks the results from the swabs came back showing pseudomonas, Vet is going to put him on marbofloxacin as the test showed this is the only drug that will work.
Vet also mention possibility of it being 'immune mediated' I had a look in 'Blacks' but no real info so can anyone explain what/how this is please.

I've had this but with ears.  We too had one medication that was supposed to work and we started it after he'd had his ears flushed.  It did seem to do the trick and symptoms subsided.  However, in the last few weeks I've noticed he has another problem, I've got him back on the same medication but even after three weeks I've not seen much improvement...

The immune system may over-react ]definition on Wiki[/url] regarding Immune mediated - which is how it's been explained to me previously - but have a look at information on autoimmunity too.

In simple terms Pseudomonas is an opportunistic bacteria to which antibiotic resistance is increasing.  It's also becoming pretty common and presumably ears, nose and throat are quite vulnerable.  I hope you can get Zuma treated ok

Thanks for that, makes things a little clearer. I'm still in a dilema as the vet is reccommending a biopsy of tissue to see if it is immune-mediated (which will mean a GA apart from anything else)
Her idea is that if he has the marbofloxacin and then it comes back because it is I-M  the drug won't work as well a second time.
I had a chat with her teatime and still can't decide which way to go :-(

I would wait and see if the antibiotics work first before worrying, at least a culture has been done to find the right one rather than taking pot luck.

In humans we would stop using certain antobiotics because bugs would become resistant or to help prevent resistance becoming a problem, the drugs of choice seemed to change every few months, unfortunately GP's would continue with their favourites meaning that more patients were being admitted with pneumonia than I had ever seen before requiring prelonged use of IV antibiotics and all ages were affected.
