Curiousity question - if a dog qualified in a baby puppy class for Crufts, and would be a 10 months at Crufts, but qualified at say 4 or 5 months can he compete?

Pasted the below from their site:

''N.B.  A Puppy qualified which is between 6 and 8 months of age is not eligible for entry in Special Puppy or Special Junior.''

I don't think baby puppy classes qualify, for Irish & FCI i think it's best junior in breed & best of breed at certain shows that will qualify.

Yes but in Belfast it's first, second and third within the class but I think I just realised that that being technically a UK show wouldn't have a baby puppy class (which we have in Ireland for 4-6 months) :)

Yes so Belfast Champ show has UK Kennel Club show rules and would be like any other UK qualifier, so only puppies over 6 months would be eligable for exhibition

Yep i hadn't realised baby puppy classes didn't exist there :)

We do have them in the UK but they are only at breed club shows and are called Puppy Walk, never competed my self but did bring a pup along to a few of the shows for a day out & to get him use to travelling on the ferry :)

The important bit is the section before the NB which is:  A dog under 8 calendar months of age on the 8 march 2012 is not eligible for entry at this show unless it has qualified for entry in the kennel club stud book.

I think Crufts is the only show that has a higher minimum puppy age (8 months) but the top age for these classes is extended a bit too if I remember correctly - I don't have an old schedule to hand to check...

Not to worry, no plans (or finances!) to go over to Crufts again this year anyway regardless :D

It is, and yes puppy is until 14 months. As you can't show a puppy until 6 months of age, and therefore can't qualify until 6 months, no puppy ages less than 8 months could be entered anyway as the entries close 2 months before the show.

The reason for that is the qualifier, as of course no puppy younger than 8 months would have time to Qualify for Crufts before entries closed, so the puppy class at Crufts ended up with only pups of a 4 month age range, so they extended it a few years ago to 14 months, to give a 6 month age range.
