Have a daughter with a 10 year old Gsd that we think has Cdrm, just before christmas when he was only 9 he went of his back legs overnight,he had been wobbley ,one leg turning in,all signs of this terrible problem.
She has spent lots on aids to help him ,Harness's straps, socks, velcro, the socks that divers use ,even a set of wheels.all that he has used & still has a good quality of life.
He is not incontinent always goes when helped out to the garden ,even being relaxed enough to go when on his wheels.
For the last 3 weeks she has been unable to bring them to me for dog sitting whilst she is at work as her bitch has been in season.
Monday she bought them to my house as her bitch has now finished,
Whilst doing washing up in my kitchen ,having let 3 other's out into garden, could not belive my eyes,Charlie had left the living room & taken himself out into the garden, up 5 steps & was walking (very unsteady ) but still walking around the lawn before I could get out to him he had come down the steps & sat at back door with what only I can say was a grin on his face !!!!.
Do dogs with this ,get remission ,ability to walk again,I have had others with this and have never seen this before, once of their legs that is it till they go to the Bridge ,
Now that I have finished waffleing, Has anyone else had this of has Charlie got another problem not CDRM ?
Any ideas welcome folks ?
may also have been a nerve /vertebrae injury , which after help and rest has slowly recovered.. I wouldn't let him chase / turn , do stairs/ steps, lots of TLC , maybe a hydro pool . Have just watched a rough collie with CDRM , it's a slow decline ,dragging toes ,losing feeling , muscle wastage , not like this at all.
The vet said that he had Cdrm, and as have had others with the same we are convinced that he has it,the turned in leg ,the dragging of his feet, not knowing where they are. others like him lost the use off their back legs .1 went down & stayed down ,when he later became incontinant he was let go to the bridge.2 others were very weak on the rear end,but went to the bridge with other problems. Who or where do we get a swab (cheek) done ,at the vets or a place on line ? Would it show what he has is cdrm or just rule it out . Thanks for all replys
