My 17 week old Border Terrier has Creeping Dandruff, The vet gave me some spot on 3 weeks ago cant remember what it was called but it hasn't worked she still has dandruff and scratching. Vet said Frontline will not kill them so What is the best cure? I would be grateful if any one has any info on a good treatment for this.

It can be very hard to treat and one application is not enough. You need to go back to your vet for a review and more treatment . It is contagous between dogs so the pup must be kept away from others dogs, no walks in the park ! and the house needs treatment as well. Surly the vet has some other form of treatment and did not just send you away without a proper course of action ? If so then I would be looking for a new vet quick sharp. It is actually lice that burrow under the skin.

Added FYI
Cheyletiellosis is an itchy, scaling skin disease of dogs caused by infestation with Cheyletiella mites. It is often called "walking dandruff" because when you examine an infested dog, you may see that the "dandruff" is moving. The movement is actually caused by the mites moving around under the scales. Although the mites inhabit the entire body, the scaling and itching often seem worse over the back.

Cheyletiellosis is a contagious and a zoonotic disease, which means that it can be spread to and from other dogs, cats or humans. Dogs can acquire the infection from other pets or humans. The mite is transmitted by close contact with infested animals. Since the mite can live for a few days off the host, it is also possible to become infected through environmental contamination. Eggs are also shed into the environment, which is believed to also be an important cause of re-infestation.

Ivermectin will kill them -3 doses with a fortnight in between each. Then there's no need for baths etc. Ivermectin however will have to be prescribed by a vet and they don't always do it as it is for farm animals and not licensed for dogs.  Have had cheyletiella more times than I can remember on the cats -for some reason always seem to pick it up at shows, and only ever the longhaired ones. Ivermectin always takes care of it.

Thanks I will go back to the vet and see if I can get hold of some Ivermectin. Also I will get something to treat the whole house with.

Seleen shampoo should do the trick. It's a GSL product so available over the counter. If you decide to use it read the label carefully before application. Repeat applications are needed at weekly intervals.

Thanks  dogsbody100 I will try some of that before going back to the vet.
The vets charge the earth especially if you need prescription medicines and they don't always work.

Thought Seleen was for use on seborrhoic dermatitis, creeping dandruff is a totally different problem
