Just wanted to share how proud I am of Nando today. As you all know his recall is something that has always troubled me. He has been on a longline from about the age of six months upwards. Today I was able to take him to the woods where he met at least 10 dogs and came back to us after greeting every single one of them. Even a pack of 3 dogs was not enough to make him do his usual disappearing act. Not only that but my three year old niece was also with us and he behaved impeccably around her, something I wouldn't have dreamed possible even a month ago!

For my sake more than his he still has the longline trailing behind him.

Not only that but he greeted each of them perfectly, none of his puppy like nuisance making that would have happened a month or so ago.

He is now fast asleep in the sun outside :) It is his first birthday on Thursday and I am so glad with how much he seems to be growing up :))

well, happy birthday in advance to Nando and you can be proud of turning him into a well-behaved, beautifully socialised dog that is a credit to his breed. You and he have come a long way in a year, all the best for many years to come.

I am most proud of the fact that despite all the advice and pressure we got from fellow dog owners and my parents that I stuck by my guns with regards to neutering. I remember someone saying to me "Give it X amount of months and you'll have an impeccably behaved dog and wondering why you ever considered neutering"- I wouldn't say he is 'impeccable' yet but he is certainly going that way and they were dead right- I can't believe I ever even considered it for two minutes. I thought I had ruined him through over socialisation at one point because he was just so happy to meet other dogs and people, but he now greets dogs and people with no jumping up :))))

Sspeaking as the very proud owner of three entire dogs (one of whom is still not 100% cured of jumping up) I am glad you persevered :-).

Whenever someone tells me 'it would stop the stroppy teenage years' I asked them if they considered neutering their teenage children because they got a bit bolshy! LOL

They are hard work, aren't they Pam. I wouldn't change him for the world but this has taught me that i much prefer adult dogs to puppies <G>

I just love having young dogs!problems and all,Poor Flyss was old and painfully rickety for so long-to see these effortlessly tearing about does my heart good! But yes, they are hard work.Im often amazed by the determination and energy of some people on here! Jealous too!

Just wanted to add to this. Today the dog walker was taking Nando to the woods. She was followed by a stray who went for Nando and grabbed his neck! She thought she was going to have trouble on her hands but Nando didn't react at all, other than being confused a little. She came home to tell us about it, and Nano wasn't in the slightest bit bothered :) I'm quite glad I seem to have a 'bombproof' dog!
