Insurance company is not playing ball as far as I am concerned.  Exclusions now include any respiratory conditions due to her once having kennel cough and now exclusions for lumps, cists and tumours because she had a lump which as it turned out to be a cist probably due to a knock.

With these exclusions there seems to be little point in staying with this insurance company as they have covered just about everything except injuries.

Question is I am worried about not having any insurance at all but will any insurance company take on an 8 yr old with these exclusions?  Obviously, I will do my own research but I am starting here because of the wealth of experience.

I am off to work now so won't be able to check these posts until later so if anyone does reply please do not think I am ignoring you.

Thanks

It gets more and more difficult to get insurance if you have exclusions as the poor people have found whose policies got cancelled when the Halifax withdrew their pet insurance. Left a lot of people high and dry :-(

Have you challenged the insurance company as don't most policies have a per condition for life or per stated amount ?

It is well worth having a go at them and mention insurance ombudsman as wonder if they are mis selling the policies ?

Thanks, yes, I am going to challenge them because as far as I am concerned a tumour is not the same as a cist. I have a big ovarian cist and I've been told it's a simple cist and nothing to worry about, I doubt they would have said that about a tumour! A lump on the other hand, can mean just about anything.

I'm really angry about this and did challenge them initially when Paris was very poorly in the autumn with a reverse type sneezing/coughing.  She had a scan and blood tests which were all normal and she eventually recovered yet the insurance company stated that I had to prove that there was nothing wrong with her.  They have the vet's notes so I don't know what else they were expecting.

Anyway,  I may as well just ditch them and save the money each month in the hope that nothing major happens.  Having said that, I would have said what happened last autumn was pretty bad but I ended up footing the bill anyway.

I will not go without lodging a formal complaint though.  Second complaint about an insurance company, first is ongoing with the insurance company dealing with our house subsidence.  They think the complaint is all over.

Can I ask who the insurers are ?, It's always good to know companies to be cautious off for the future.

I don't think I can say who they are, but you could Easily and Likely find out

I suspect that because of your dog's age hefty premiums and lists of exclusions are going to be par for the course. If you put in your claim before you were informed about the exclusions then I would pursue all the way to the ombudsman but if you were told about the exclusions before you tried to claim, then I don't hold out too much hope. I'd think about the saving option if I were you, its what I'd do if my dogs had exclusions due to medical history. Good luck

They are extremely wide exclusions! My dog had a lump removed last year and then developed cancerous tumours the following year after i had changed insurance companies. THey did not consider the two conditions to be the same as they were different types of lumps!

Not that I am a devious character or into diddling, skullduggery & all that - but theres a site named files 2 (google) anyone can upload a word & other files there and anyone can download the file if the link is given out so its just an anonymous file on the web.

So theres food for thought eh!

Ah, well that explains a lot, possibly one of the worst offenders out there.

They  may back down IF you can get the evidence you need and take it all the way (insurance ombudsman etc)... but initially, they won't, though they generally expect people to just take their c..p lying down as most people do, which is why they get away with selling insurance that isn't worth the paper its written on.

You would have to be prepared for a massive fight though.

I'm already into wranglings.  The first with another insurance company dealing with my house subsidence.  They have acknowledged they've made mistakes and offered me money but are still being totally useless so I'm building a fat file of emails supporting my final formal complaint.  Then there is the legal proceedings being taken out against a big manufacturer whose cooker blew my mum across the kitchen last September resulting in her smashing her hip and whose life has changed out of recognition because of her lack of mobility and ongoing pain.  I'll have to leave this another couple of weeks or so when work has calmed down before thinking about pursuing a complaint and getting myself all wound up over another company basically taking the mick.

Hi I think my old dog was with the same insurers as yours and we had the same problem she had a non cancerous tumor in her bladder and they decided to exclude any lumps cysts and tumors and then she had an ulcered eye so any further eye problems were excluded. At £69 plus 35% of the remaining vets bill per condition the insurance wasn't worth having and my vet said this company was renowned for putting exclusions on policy so we canceled as my dog was 12 we couldn't find anyone to insure her so we put money away each month just in case but sadly we lost her at Xmas due to a brain tumor .
