Silly thing really but so proud of them I have tell someone.

This morning on the way back from our walk I was stopped by the police for a check re dangerous dogs.  I put my boys in a down stay on the pavement and walked about 10yrds to their car, where we were about 10 mins and they didnt move a muscle and didnt get up till I released them from their down.  So so proud.

Well done to your boys! What checks where they doing?

ETA - you're in Spain! = different rules regarding some breeds of dogs.

We have to have them registered at the police station/town hall, micro chipped, rabies jabbed and dangerous dog insurance to the value of 175,000 euros and they are supposed to be muzzled at all times when out.  Mine have haltis on and they think they are muzzled but I dont take them into public places because really there is no need to and I dont want to muzzle them.  We socialised them in local bars when they were puppies and they are fine.  I walk them in the lemon groves and over acres of open land and even though I say it myself they are wonderful dogs and they have converted a lot of peoples attitudes to Rotts

Thats so nice :) It really proves the 'deed not breed' very well. A good owner will have a good dog(s), well done to you :)

We met two rotties on Sunday a large boy and smaller girl. The girl was a softy but the boy very dominant and wanted to show my girls who was boss but the owner took her time and calmed him down and we were all able to sit outside whilst having lunch and he was as quiet as mouse.

Ah! I have only just noticed your Spanish Flag! Is it just 'dangerous' breeds that need to be muzzled when out and about or dogs in general?

It is very difficult here to socialise them with people and other dogs because of peoples fear of them and they have never been to training classes.  I have worked very hard to make sure that they are ok with people and other dogs.  In the UK I have shown BSDs to crufts level and done competition obedience and agility, these are the first dogs I have had that I have not been able to do anything with.

Dangerous dogs which is the usual breeds but here they also say any thing over 25kg of muscular build deep chested or any crosses, which does cover quite a few breeds.

Too late to edit but also forgot to add both are adult males and they are litter brothers............. which I know goes against the grain for a lot of people on here, they did not come from BYBs, parents health tested and shown, their grandfather was champion of Spain 2010 and before the Spanish breeder let me have two I had to prove I knew what I was taking on etc etc

Was it actually grumbling? Used to have a rott and a few times people would make a fuss of her and she would start ........mutter mutter mumble..........and person would back off but quite a few who had or knew rotts were quite happy...........oh she's talking to me ! :-).
A bit difficult to tell the difference between a grumble and a chat if you haven't lived with a Rott :-D

Well done you .The vet in Albox was slightly winding me up saying my Rough collies and Borzois would have to be muzzled in public, as they were over 25kg.I never did .

One of my boys does the Rottie grumble and talks to you all the while you are making a fuss of him.

Bit like a cat purring but much louder.

No, this one was being territorial and growling at anyone going near her area. Understandable of course but I know most are soppy :-)

Your boys sound like a lovely, well trained pair of Rotties and you should be very proud! I love rotties and I hate the fact that bad owners have given them such a bad name. I have 3 Giant Schauzers, who are just as good guard dogs, big and black [and German] but because they are smaller in number than Rotties, they don't, fortunately, have a bad reputation yet but people definatly have an attitude towards them whilst out walking [the 'big black dog' thing..]
Keep up the good work and spread the word that in right hands Rotties are fantastic dogs!
