Once again puppies are for sale unsold in a London Pet shop at 5 months of age. The pet shop has 17 different breeds advertised some are purchased from Wales but others are imported from Slovakia (which come into the UK under the Pet Passport scheme)therefore they are 13 weeks of age before arrival in the shop. The two that are now 5 months of age are two English Bulldogs.
I feel it is really important with the Gov consultation on dangerous dogs, microchipping, dog breeding to have the dealers and pet shops included too in the consulation or at least mentioned and discussed. If we could highlight the plight of puppies sold from pet shops and have legislation introduced to prevent puppies sold from third parties then we may start to see a reduction in puppies bred commercially in Wales and imported from the Irish Republic, Ireland and the Eastern European countries to be sold by dealers and pet shops.

Pat no pup can come in under pet passport before 3 months (minimum age for Rabies vaccination)plus 3 weeks, so 16 weeks of age.
Though of course who is to say the pups are realy 3 months old when vaccinated even if purported to be.
Wasn't a truck stopped recently illegally bringing pups into the UK? I seem to remember something about it. No paper work or anything.

Sorry, yes my mistake I was thinking of the time of the rabies vac and ommitted the waiting time after it should of course read 16 weeks, thankyou for pointing it out.
Re - the truck that was found to be full of puppies without the correct paperwork, I do recall the story the puppies were from I believe an eastern european country but cannot for the life of me remember where it was checked. However I did not realise the destination, for the one I am trying to recall, was the UK. It is always possible there has been another since the one I am trying to remember.

I think the crux of it all is to get puppies to be stopped from being sold in pet shops period. That has got to be the answer to so many problems, including puppy farming here and in Ireland. Good God, haven't we got enough problems with that without importing from Slovakia and the like? We have to close down the obvious and convenient outlet of the Pet Shop, which also in the general public's eye has the facade of respectability.
Absolutely!
Part of the problem is that many people simply do not realise that puppies are still sold in pet shops and therefore do not realise there is anything to complain about. Raising public awareness that this practice still continues and is a big problem has to be half the battle. Pressuring the Government into recognising that this is wholly unacceptable in this day and age and prohibiting it is the other half.
There can be NO justification for puppies to be sold in this manner, none whatsoever. :-(
