I've a friend who'd taken on a unwanted dog who's owners upped and left!! :(
Problem is she's micro chipped under there details and she's no way of contacting them or knowing where they've gone!
How can she go about getting the micro chipped details changed to her own?

Best to ring Petlog and ask for advice.

E-mail PetLog and explain, they will send a special form to fill in. On the form they have to explain how they got hold of the dog and if possible enclose any information that verifies this. The cost is £15. PetLog then tries to contact the previous owner and if they've heard nothing for x number of weeks they will transfer the chip to the new owner, on the understanding that if the original owner should appear and complain about it, the chip may be changed back. I've gone through this very recently. The process took several weeks.

As Goldmali says, you give them X amount of weeks and then they automatically put it in your name. If you are worried perhaps get the dog tatooed in your name?

It is 6 weeks I believe.
